Arizona Cardinals Fans Are Ready To Move On From QB Kyler Murray

The Arizona Cardinals will start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback on Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys, and it could be a sign of things to come. Usual starter Kyler Murray may be falling out of favor with both the coaching staff and the fan base, and the team may be ready to move on by the end of 2025.

Is Kyler Murray Falling Out Of Favor With The Cardinals & Their Fan Base?

The expectations were obviously sky-high for Murray. He was the first pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, and had the potential to be an elite dual-threat quarterback for the Cardinals for years to come. And while he has shown flashes of brilliance in certain situations, his performance has been mediocre at best over the last few years.

Murray won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in his first season and made the Pro Bowl in the two years after that, and it looked as though he was on the verge of blossoming into the player that many expected him to be.

But there has been a noticeable regression since 2022. Injuries have been a factor, as he played in 14 or fewer games in 3 of the last 4 years, and has will miss his third-straight game of 2025 on Monday night. He hasn’t been all that effective when he has been available, as he has thrown 23 interceptions in 36 games over the last three years.

On top of it all, Kyler Murray has yet to win a single playoff game, and he has led his team to just one postseason appearance thus far in his career.

A Split Between Team & QB Could Be Coming Next Offseason

The end appears to be near.

There have long been mixed feelings within the Cardinals fan base. There are those who point to his dual-threat ability and elusiveness as reasons why he should stay. Others cite the lack of team success during Murray’s stint, and his inability to remain healthy in recent years.

The overall consensus seems to be that while Kyler Murray may not be the problem in Arizona, he certainly is not the solution.

How likely is a divorce by season’s end? The current regime has done what they can to work with Murray, but he was initially brought in by a different general manager and head coach. Monti Ossenfort and Jonathan Gannon could use the upcoming offseason to finally bring in their own guy, which would mean the end of the road for Murray with the team.

Where might he end up? There could be a handful of teams that search for a quarterback during the 2026 offseason. That list could include the Jets, Saints, Dolphins, and Raiders, so there won’t be a lack of interest. With Murray still just 28 years old, he has time to prove that he still has something left in the tank, and could fetch a solid asset haul in return for Arizona.
