The NFL trade deadline has passed, and one of the most notable players to remain with their respective teams is Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. Why did the Eagles not move Brown?

The man behind the Eagles’ transactions is general manager Howie Roseman. Known for being aggressive with his moves, Roseman is not afraid to give up draft picks for an impact player.
During the 2022 NFL Draft, Roseman traded the Eagles’ first-round pick to the Titans for Brown. With Brown as the Eagles’ No. 1 wide receiver, the Eagles have been to the Super Bowl in two of the last three seasons, winning it all in 2024.
The 2025 campaign has been tumultuous for Brown. The Eagles’ offense has struggled most of the season, with Brown’s numbers—29 receptions, 395 yards, and three touchdowns—on pace for his worst statistical year since 2021.
Throw in the fact that Brown has been releasing mysterious quotes on social media. From the outside, the perception is that the Eagles want to deal Brown to another team. The Eagles’ wide receiver found himself in constant trade rumors over the past few weeks.
After Tuesday’s deadline, Brown remains a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Why didn’t Roseman move his star wide receiver?
“I think that when you’re trying to be a great team, it’s hard to trade great players, and A.J. Brown is a great player,” Roseman said to the media via the Eagles X account. “He wears a ‘C’ for a reason. He’s an important part of this team, of this organization. He cares about winning, he cares about his teammates, and I think when you’re a team like ours that is looking forward to an opportunity to compete for a championship, you just don’t get rid of guys like that.”
Roseman did not say if he would explore a trade for Brown in the offseason.

While Roseman didn’t deal Brown, he did pull off multiple trades to help improve an Eagles team that ranks 23rd in total defense (336.3 yards per game).
The Eagles acquired edge rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins for a 2026 third-round pick.
The Eagles also traded for Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jaire Alexander and New York Jets defensive back Michael Carter II.
Up front, the Eagles are in the bottom third of the league for sacks. While Phillips only has three sacks this season, he did have 6.5 in 2023 when Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio coached in Miami.
Alexander and Carter will try to bring stability to an Eagles secondary looking for production outside of corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
The Eagles (6-2) head to Green Bay to face the Packers (5-2-1) on Monday Night Football.
