Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur shared his comments about the tush push ahead of the team’s Week 10 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Matt LaFleur Talks About Tush Push
The entire Tush Push interaction with #Packers head coach Matt LaFleur today. Definitely a big storyline against Philly next Monday, as Green Bay led the charge on trying to get it banned this offseason.

This past offseason, the Packers proposed a rule to ban the tush push, a virtually unstoppable quarterback sneak that the Eagles have perfected.
Ultimately, the proposal did not pass, and the Eagles have continued to run the play at a high success rate.
In Week 10, the Packers host the Eagles for the first time since the proposal to ban the tush push. Has LaFleur’s opinion on the play changed since the failed proposal?
“I’m not going to get into it,” LaFleur said to the media on Thursday via Cameron Ezeir. “It is what it is. The NFL made a decision, and we have to find a way to try to stop the play, and it’s a tough play to stop.”
The Eagles have run the tush push 21 times in eight games this season. Per ESPN Research, that’s a conversion rate of 76.5%. The Eagles’ tush push conversion rate has decreased every year since 2022. The conversion rate has moved from 92.6% in 2022 to 83.3% in 2023 and 82.1% in 2024.
Still, the tush push is extremely difficult to stop. LaFleur believes that not giving the Eagles situations to run the sneak is the ideal way to prevent it.
“The best way to stop it is to not allow it to happen,” LaFleur said. “You can’t allow them in those short-yardage situations because you know exactly what they’re going to do. And they’ve been pretty successful at it, obviously.”
Will the Tush Push Be Banned in 2026?

This past offseason, the Packers proposed a rule change to eliminate the tush push. LaFleur and Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst called the play a safety hazard.
At the owners’ meeting, 24 of the 32 teams needed to vote “yes” on the proposal to eliminate the tush push. The proposal garnered 22 votes, two short of the necessary 24.
Therefore, teams would be allowed to run the tush push in 2025.
Something tells me that this will be the last season of the tush push.
There have been numerous instances where the refs have not properly officiated the play. The Eagles should have been flagged for false starts on multiple occasions.
The two instances that might kill the tush push came against the New York Giants.
In Week 6, the Eagles ran the tush push four times in a row inside the 5-yard line. While some may argue that teams should learn to stop it, the NFL is a television product. Look at how the rules have changed to protect quarterbacks and make it tougher for defenses to guard opposing receivers.
The tush push is an ugly play, and if fans don’t want it, the NFL will listen.
The greater injustice came in Week 8, when the refs incorrectly ruled forward progress, negating a Jalen Hurts fumble.
In Week 10, the Packers (5-2-1) host the Eagles (6-2) on Monday Night Football.
