The WTA Finals have barely finished, but we are getting the fallout from it.
Two of the eight doubles teams will definitely not play together in 2026, and another is in jeopardy because of Timea Babos’s admission on Sunday that she may not play a full season in 2026. Her successful and impromptu pairing with Luisa Stefani hangs in the balance.

Which Doubles Teams Are Breaking Up?
Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs will not play together next year.
Two-time US Open champions (2023 and 2025) and 2024 WTA Finals champions Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe have also announced that they will not play together in 2026.
This is a shocking announcement given their long relationship, success, and the fact that they withstood Dabrowski’s breast cancer diagnosis and won the WTA Finals last year after her recovery.
They played 43 tournaments together.
Which Doubles Teams Are Forming?
As a result of Asia Muhammad partnering up with Erin Routliffe, Muhammad’s 2025 doubles partner Demi Schuurs will play with Ellen Perez in 2026.

Asia Muhammad will pair with her good friend Erin Routliffe in 2026. Muhammad, 34, has 13 doubles titles and was a 2020 US Open doubles semifinalist. Asia Muhammad and Routliffe won the 2024 Cincinnati Open together while Dabrowski was recovering. Routliffe has 12 career titles.
Demi Schuurs, who has 21 career titles, is teaming with Ellen Perez, winner of 8 titles.
Conclusion
There could be more doubles repairings announced over the next few weeks. Initially, I wondered if Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend would move on to other partners, but there has been no information indicating that will be the case.
Another rumor is that Jessica Pegula will play more doubles in 2026 with McCartney Kessler. Kessler paired with Coco Gauff to win the Canadian Open over the summer.

One team that is expected to stay aligned is the Italian duo of Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani. Though Errani has given up playing singles, the 38-year-old is one of the best doubles players in the world.
