Lakers LeBron James Can Miss Only 1 One Game To Qualify For All-NBA

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has already missed 16 games this season, meaning the future Hall of Famer will become ineligible for All-NBA and postseason awards if he misses two more games.

LeBron James Has 21 All-NBA Selections

James is expected to miss at least 18 of the Lakers’ games this season. With only 59 games remaining in the season, the four-time NBA MVP will go without an All-NBA honor for the first time since his rookie season in 2003-04.

NBA players must participate in at least 65 of the regular season’s 82 games to qualify for end-of-season awards and honors. James missed the Lakers’ first 14 games this season due to sciatica on his right side.

James, who turns 41 on Dec. 30, is the first player in NBA history to play in 23 seasons. He’s also received 21 All-NBA selections across his playing career (13 First Teams, four Second Teams, four Third Teams).

Last season, James was selected to the All-NBA Second Team after averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 34.9 minutes per game in 70 appearances.

Had James had stayed healthy this campaign, he likely wouldn’t have received an All-NBA honor based on his play.

Through six outings this season, James is averaging just 14.0 points, 7.8 assists, and career lows of 4.3 rebounds and 32.8 minutes per contest with a shooting line of 41.3/25.9/55.0.

All three of his shooting percentages are career-low marks as well.

James’ 10-Point Scoring Streak Was Snapped

What’s more, James saw his streak of scoring 10 or more points in 1,297 straight regular-season games end in a 123-120 road win over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night.

James finished with eight points and had the game-winning assist to Rui Hachimura for a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. The four-time NBA champ also grabbed six rebounds and dished out 11 assists in 35 minutes of action.

However, he finished just 4-of-17 (23.5%) shooting from the field and missed all five of his 3-point attempts.

James’ 10-point streak started on Jan. 6, 2007. It was the longest such streak in NBA history: Michael Jordan had 866 consecutive double-digit scoring games, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787, and Karl Malone recorded the fourth-longest run at 575.

During James’ streak, he reached the 10-point mark by the start of the fourth quarter 1,266 times entering Thursday, per ESPN Stats & Information.

It should be noted that two of those single-digit games through three quarters had come in the past week or so.

James had nine points heading into the fourth against the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 28 then had six points going into the fourth versus the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.

Kevin Durant is the new active leader at 267 consecutive games.
