The New York Knicks are reportedly open to a potential reunion with Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo, according to Kris Pursiainen of ClutchPoints.
Knicks Could Trade For Donte DiVincenzo
Last October, the Knicks traded DiVincenzo, Keita Bates-Diop, Julius Randle, and a 2025 first-round draft pick to the Timberwolves for star big man Karl-Anthony Towns.
“League sources tell ClutchPoints that the Knicks have had exploratory discussions with two Western Conference teams about potential trades, with New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo at the center of various proposals,” Pursiainen wrote.
DiVincenzo, 28, joined the Knicks on a four-year, $50 million deal in July 2023. The 6-foot-4 guard was reunited then with former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.
In DiVincenzo’s lone season with New York in the 2023-24 campaign, he averaged a career-high 15.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 29.1 minutes per game in 81 outings (63 starts).
Per Basketball Reference, he shot 44.3% from the field, a career-best 40.1% from beyond the arc, and 75.4% from the foul line. His true shooting percentage (59.7%) and usage rate (21.3%) from that year are still his career bests.
DiVincenzo Broke 3-Point Record With N.Y.
More importantly, DiVincenzo made a career-high 283 3-pointers on 705 attempts.
In New York’s 124-99 win over the Detroit Pistons on March 5, 2024, he set the Knicks’ single-game franchise record for made 3-pointers with a career-high 11 3s on 20 attempts (55%).
He broke the club’s single-game record of 10, which was held by J.R. Smith and Evan Fournier.
DiVincenzo was selected 17th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2018 NBA draft out of Villanova and spent parts of four seasons with the Bucks.
The Delaware native started 66 regular-season games in Milwaukee’s championship-winning 2021 season before missing most of the playoffs due to an ankle injury.
He was then dealt to the Sacramento Kings at the 2022 trade deadline before signing a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors after the season.
The 2026 NBA trade deadline is Feb. 5.
