On Saturday, December 13, the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic met in Las Vegas. They had a matchup in the semi-finals of the Emirates NBA Cup.
For that game, Orlando was without SF Franz Wagner. Despite that, the Magic were competitive with the Knicks. In the end, they lost 132-120. During the loss to New York, starting PG Jalen Suggs re-aggravated an injury. After having an MRI on Monday, it was confirmed that Suggs suffered a hip contusion. There is no timetable for his return. Who steps up for the Magic while Suggs is out?

Injuries have been a struggle for Jalen Suggs over the last two seasons. He played just 35 games and missed 47 games for the Magic in 2024-25. Orlando was 21-26 in the 47 games Suggs missed. In the five games Suggs has missed in 2025-26, the Magic are 2-3. If Suggs misses extended time, who will step up for the Magic? Tyus Jones is a legitimate candidate to see an increase in minutes.
Jones has played a reduced role in 2025-26 compared to 2024-25. With the Suns’ last season, Jones appeared in 81 of their 82 games and made 58 starts. He averaged 26.8 minutes per game. In 2025-26, Tyus Jones is averaging 13.9 minutes per game for the Magic.
He’s played in all 26 games and has made one start. Jones is a veteran PG who is more than capable of filling in for Jalen Suggs. It’s unknown how much time Jalen Suggs will miss. Orlando’s next game is Thursday evening vs. the Nuggets.
