The Jets have released Lazard, the team announced on Tuesday.
Lazard has played sparingly this season. The 30-year-old recorded 10 receptions for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. Lazard has been a healthy scratch four times this season, as coach Aaron Glenn has prioritized playing younger talent.
The Jets signed Lazard to a four-year, $44 million contract in 2023. The move was seen as a way to entice quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was later traded from the Packers to the Jets that offseason.
With Rodgers now on the Steelers, the Jets no longer required Lazard’s services. Lazard ends his Jets tenure having caught 70 receptions for 911 yards and eight touchdowns.
Lazard will now head to waivers. If unclaimed, Lazard will become a free agent, with the ability to sign with any team. Lazard prefers to play for a contender.
3 Teams Who Should Sign WR Allen Lazard
Allen Lazard is a highly respected veteran wide receiver with 28 career TDs and ample postseason experience.

Pittsburgh Steelers
The most obvious landing spot for Lazard is the Pittsburgh Steelers due to the built-in connection the receiver has with Rodgers.
Outside of DK Metcalf, the Steelers are desperately searching for a No. 2 wide receiver. The team signed Adam Thielen in hopes of getting a productive veteran. However, Thielen only had two receptions in two games with the Steelers.
Rodgers is a quarterback who heavily relies on trustworthy veterans. Rodgers and Lazard have a preexisting connection that could continue in Pittsburgh.
Los Angeles Rams
Much of Lazard’s appeal to the first-place Los Angeles Rams has to do with the status of Davante Adams.
Adams injured his hamstring in Sunday’s Week 15 win over the Detroit Lions.
While the injury isn’t season-ending, Adams could miss some time. Coach Sean McVay is optimistic Adams could play in Thursday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
If the Rams opt to sit Adams for a few weeks, Lazard could be a suitable replacement for Adams before the postseason.
Buffalo Bills
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Josh Allen needs another pass catcher.
Khalil Shakir leads the team in receiving with 650 yards. Outside of Shakir, no other wide receiver on the Bills has over 360 receiving yards.
Allen frequently uses tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox in the passing game. However, the No. 2 receiver has felt like a revolving door due to Keon Coleman’s inconsistent play.
Lazard should not be viewed as a savior. However, he’s a sure-handed receiver who could be worth the flier in a Bills’ offense searching for more depth on the outside.
