After Aaron Rodgers struggled in the Steelers’ loss to the Chargers, is Mike Tomlin concerned about his quarterback’s play?

Aaron Rodgers Plays Worst Game as a Steeler

Week 10 was Rodgers’ worst performance as a member of the Steelers.

Rodgers finished 16 of 31 for 161 yards (52.6%), one touchdown, and two interceptions in a 25-10 loss. Pittsburgh’s offense managed only 221 total yards in the losing effort.

The Chargers’ defense dominated the Steelers’ offense all night. Los Angeles sacked Rodgers three times and forced three turnovers. Was Sunday night a bad game or a bad sign?

“I’m not going to chalk it up to an off night, but there are no long-term concerns,” Tomlin said about Rodgers’ performance via ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.

Tomlin added, “Sunday night was what it was. But I have no long-term reservations about his ability to play the position and play the position at a high level for us.”

Before Sunday night, Rodgers was starting to find his groove in the Steelers’ offense. Rodgers threw for nine touchdowns and one interception in his last four games heading into the Chargers game.

Rodgers acknowledged his poor performance in the loss and took accountability for his mistakes.

“I expect to play great every single week, and this was not my best performance,” Rodgers said via Steelers.com. “I have to play better for us to win. Whatever it takes. If it’s better checks, if it’s better throws, whatever it is. I have to play better. I will.”

The Steelers’ inability to convert on third downs (2-11) led to their downfall on Sunday.

“We were bad on third down. I was just a little bit off,” Rodgers added. “I missed, obviously, some throws, for sure. And then we weren’t getting guys open, and just put it all together, times the guys were open. I missed some throws I usually make.”

Steelers Maintain Slight Division Lead

With the Steelers losing three of their last four games, the race for the AFC North is much tighter than it was a month ago.

The Steelers remain in sole possession of first place at 5-4.

The Baltimore Ravens, who now have Lamar Jackson back in the lineup, are in second place at 4-5, followed by the Cincinnati Bengals at 3-6 and the Cleveland Browns at 2-7.

The Steelers and Ravens play for the first time on Dec. 7 in Baltimore. Those two teams will then play in Pittsburgh in the final week of the regular season. That Week 18 game could be for the division crown.

The Steelers face the Bengals in Pittsburgh on Nov. 16.
