Recently, NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Chicago’s Coby White. The 25-year-old is on an expiring contract with the Bulls. White will be an unrestricted free agent in the 2026 offseason. Stein suggested that the Bulls “are more open to trading White than they’ve ever been.” Pistons beat reporters believe the team could trade Jaden Ivey for Coby White’s short-term production and expiring contract.

Detroit will have decisions to make at the trade deadline


Coby White was the 7th overall pick by the Bulls in the 2019 NBA draft out of North Carolina. He is currently in his seventh season with the Bulls. White has averaged 20+ points per game in each of his last two seasons. His 21.2 points per game lead Chicago in 2025-26. While Coby White is playing well this season. He is on an expiring contract. Recently, NBA insider Marc Stein shared a report surrounding White.

He said the Bulls “are more open to trading White than they’ve ever been.” Chicago is 13-15 through their first 28 games. Between eight and 12th in the East is where the Bulls have lived in recent years. If Stein’s reporting is true, Chicago could trade Coby White ahead of the 2025-26 deadline. White is on an expiring contract and could be viewed as a one-year rental for a trade partner.

One trade suitor for Coby White could be the Pistons. Early rumors are that Detroit is not interested in making a splashy trade. General manager Trajan Langdon wants the team to continue building chemistry. However, Coby White could be the perfect addition for the Pistons. Jaden Ivey’s production has taken a step back in 2025-26. Team insiders have suggested that Detroit trade Jaden Ivey for Coby White as a short-term replacement.

White is on an expiring deal. If the Pistons did make a trade for him, they would not be obligated to keep him long-term. At 22-6, Detroit owns the top record in the East. We’ll have to wait and see if the Pistons make a move. The 2025-26 NBA trade deadline in February 6. Coby White would be an instant upgrade for Jaden Ivey. However, that would break up the chemistry Detroit has been building with its current roster.
