The reigning Wimbledon and ATP Finals champions are coming off an outstanding season; however, Kudermetova has told Mertens that she is taking a break.

Unsubstantiated reports indicate that Kudermetova, 28, is expecting a baby with her husband/coach Sergei Demekhine.
Kudermetova is ranked World No. 30 in singles and is currently on the 2026 Australian Open player list.
No one from Veronika Kudermetova’s team has commented on the situation.

Mertens is an established doubles player who has won Grand Slams with Aryna Sabalenka and Hsieh Su-wei.
She is partnering with another reputable doubles player, Shuai Zhang. Zhang, 36, is a two-time Grand Slam champion.
