Veronika Kudermetova, partnered with Elise Mertens, wins her maiden Grand Slam in women’s doubles at Wimbledon.
Was rooting for Penko and Su Wei but Veronika Kudermetova played phenomenal down 2-4 in the 3rd. Her amazing net play was the main contributor to some of Mertens’ holds and it was really her who chased the break back. This win clearly means a lot to her and Elise. #Wimbledon pic.twitter.com/mwuIw1DdOd

Kudermetova was the only one of the star-studded foursome that did not win a doubles Grand Slam title before today. In fact, she was on the losing end of a Su-wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens at the 2021 Wimbledon doubles final.
Today, partnered with Mertens, against Jelena Ostapenko and Su-wei Hsieh, Kudermetova was bold and brave on the big points and earned Wimbledon immortality in the process.

Jelena Ostapenko had a lot at stake. If she won, she would have been World No. 1 in doubles and a winner of a Grand Slam (singles or doubles) at each major.
It was a thrilling doubles final with Ostapenko/Hsieh winning the first set, and Mertens/Kudermetova winning the final two sets.
Mertens, Hsieh, and Ostapenko won 14 Grand Slams between them before this match. 39-year-old Hsieh is a doubles legend who was vying for her fifth Wimbledon doubles title (three women’s and one mixed).
The trophy celebration was one of gratitude and respect between the two teams who managed to take out the top seeded teams in their path to the Wimbledon final. Hsieh and Ostapenko took out the 2024 Wimbledon champions and the top seeded team, Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova, in the semifinals. Mertens and Kudermetova defeated the second seeded team of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routcliffe in the quarterfinals.
Mertens and Kudermetova have partnered on and off during the years, but recently rejoined forces in 2025. They made an immediate impact as Italian Open finalists losing to Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini.
