Rockets center Alperen Sengun will be reevaluated at the end of this week and is expected to miss approximately 10 to 14 days, head coach Ime Udoka told sideline reporter Vanessa Richardson on Monday.
Alperen Sengun Suffered Injury Against Mavs
Sengun, 23, sustained a lateral right ankle sprain just over a minute into Saturday’s game at Dallas and was ruled out for the remainder of the 110-104 loss.
The Rockets selected Sengun with the 16th overall pick in the 2021 draft. The 6-foot-11 big man received his first All-Star selection in 2024-25 and is having another solid year in 2025-26.
Through 27 appearances (all starts) heading into Saturday’s matchup, Sengun was averaging 22.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 block, with a shooting line of 51.2/31.7/73.4.
In Houston’s 125-124 season-opener loss at Oklahoma City on Oct. 21, he recorded 39 points on 12-of-24 (50%) shooting from the field, 5-for-8 (62.5%) from deep, and 10-of-11 (90.9%) from the foul line.
According to Basketball Reference, Sengun currently ranks 13th in rebounds per game (9.0), 19th in offensive rebounds (82), and 15th in player efficiency rating (22.5).
Sengun Signed Rookie Extension With Rockets
Last season, Sengun was one of just six players to average at least 21 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, with the others being Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Julius Randle.
Per Spotrac, Sengun signed a five-year, $185 million rookie extension before the 2025-26 season. His deal includes a $39.03 million player option for 2029-30.
In other news, Rockets veteran center Steven Adams returned to action on Monday against Phoenix after missing the previous two games with a right ankle sprain.
Adams had eight points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 31 minutes as a starter. He and Clint Capela are among the primary candidates for increased playing time with Sengun out.
Meanwhile, the Rockets are currently 22-11, good enough for the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference. They trail the top-seeded Thunder (30-7), San Antonio Spurs (25-10), and Denver Nuggets (24-12).
Houston visits the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
