Byrum Brown is transferring from USF to Auburn

On Tuesday, January 6, college football insiders announced that Brown is transferring to Auburn. He’s set to reunite with his former head coach, Alex Golesh. They spent three seasons together at USF. Golesh was the mastermind behind the Bulls’ offense, and Brown executed his vision. USF was ranked as high as 18 during the 2025 college football season.
With one season of eligibility remaining, Byrum Brown is taking his talents to the SEC. Brown was one of the top players in the transfer portal. The 20-year-old will bring instant stability to Auburn in 2026. It’s a perfect match for Byrum Brown to reunite with Alex Golesh. Auburn hopes to find success with Alex Golesh. The Tigers haven’t had a winning record since 2019.
Auburn has finished 5-7 in consecutive seasons. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Byrum Brown will be one of the highest-paid collegiate players in 2026. In four years with the Bulls, Byrum Brown completed 64.8% of his pass attempts for 7,690 yards, 61 passing touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. Additionally, he added 2,265 rushing yards and 31 rushing touchdowns at USF.
Per Byrum Brown’s biography page on USF’s website, he is one of four FBS players in the last 30 seasons with 2,800 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, and 900 rushing yards through 11 games. He joins Jayden Daniels (2023), Jalen Hurts (2019), and Lamar Jackson (2016). Along with Byrum Brown, USF QB Locklan Hewlett transferred to Auburn this offseason. Alex Golesh is completely changing the Tigers’ QB room for 2026. While Brown will be playing a step up in competition, he should see early success in a highly familiar offensive system.
