Spurs Injury Update: Victor Wembanyama Upgraded To Questionable Tuesday Vs. Grizzlies

After a loss to Portland on Saturday, the Spurs are 25-10 this season. That is the second-best record in the Western Conference—only four games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder.

San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama has missed each of the team’s last two games due to a hyperextended knee. The 22-year-old suffered that injury on December 31 vs. the Knicks. Ahead of their matchup on Tuesday evening vs. the Grizzlies, Victor Wembanyama has been upgraded to questionable. He is traveling with the team to Memphis, indicating that he could be active on Tuesday.

Will Victor Wembanyama play on Tuesday for the San Antonio Spurs?

In 2025-26, Victor Wembanyma has already missed 14 games for the Spurs. After playing 71 games as a rookie, Wembanyama has struggled to stay healthy for San Antonio. During his sophomore campaign in 2024-25, the 22-year-old started 46 of the team’s 82 games. He was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. Wembanyama was forced to miss the final 36 games of the 2024-25 season. Unfortunately, injuries have played a factor early in 2025-26 as well.

Earlier in the year, Wembanyama suffered a left calf strain. He was forced to miss 12 consecutive games for San Antonio. The 2023-24 Rookie of the Year returned on December 13 before suffering a knee injury on December 31. That’s forced Wembanyama to miss the Spurs’ last two games. Ahead of their game vs. Memphis on Tuesday, Wembanyama has been upgraded to questionable.

Speaking with reporters on Saturday, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson said Wembanyama’s injury recovery is going well. He said the center will be rejoining the team in Memphis, but would not share his game status. Wembanyama could be a true game-time decision on Tuesday. San Antonio is not going to rush Wembanyama’s return. The Spurs sit in second place in the West and are playing the Grizzlies on a four-game losing streak.

Upon returning from his initial calf strain, Victor Wembanyama played in a sixth-man role for San Antonio. He came off the bench in six consecutive games before returning as a starter on December 27. Given the fact that Wemby is recovering from a hyperextended knee, he might play a bench role if he’s available vs. Memphis. If Wembanyama doesn’t play on Tuesday, expect Luke Kornet to see an increased role. He was a key free agent signing for San Antonio this offseason. Kornet has filled in nicely when Wembanyama has missed time.
