After a strong rookie season with Memphis in 2024-25, Zach Edey has struggled to be available in 2025-26. He’s appeared in just 11 of the team’s 39 games this year. The 23-year-old missed the first 13 games of the season for the Grizzlies due to an offseason surgery in June. Edey underwent a procedure to repair his left ankle. He had lingering ankle issues as a rookie, but played in 66 games and made 55 starts for the Grizzlies.
On November 15, Memphis Zach Edey made his season debut. The 23-year-old proceeded to make 11 consecutive starts for the Grizzlies before he re-injured his left ankle. Initially, the team announced that Zach Edey has a stress reaction in his left ankle and would miss four weeks before being re-evaluated. Edey has missed the last 15 games for Memphis, and that number will continue to rise.

Ahead of an international matchup in Berlin on Thursday, the Grizzlies’ PR department released a medical update. They announced that Zach Edey is set to miss at least another six weeks. Not ideal for the second-year pro. There have been no steps forward in his recovery process, and he simply needs more time before he makes his way back on the court. In his 11 starts this season, Zach Edey is averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.
With Edey out of the lineup, head coach Tuomas Iisalo has had to use multiple players at center. This offseason, the team signed Jock Landale to a one-year contract. He’s proved to be a valuable player early in the year for Memphis. Landale has appeared in 37 of 39 games and made 19 starts.
The 30-year-old has started the last five consecutive games for the Grizzlies. With Zach Edey out, Landale will continue to play a big role. Memphis also announced that Scottie Pippen Jr. and Brandon Clarke are out for another four to six weeks due to their respective injuries.
