Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey will be reevaluated in four weeks with a stress reaction in the left ankle he had surgically repaired in the offseason, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.
“This is a management plan to optimize Zach’s long-term health in consultation with the Grizzlies and medical experts,” his representative, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, told the network.
“Following this step, the short- and long-term prognosis for Zach is excellent.”
Zach Edey Sprained Left Ankle During Offseason Training
Edey, 23, underwent surgery on his left ankle in June. The 7-foot-3 big man needed the procedure to repair and restabilize the ankle after spraining it during offseason training.
He missed the Grizzlies’ first 13 games and made his season debut Nov. 15.
Through 11 appearances (all starts) this season, Edey has averaged career highs of 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 25.8 minutes per game while shooting 63.3% from the field and 78.1% from the foul line.

Edey has also averaged 16.5 points, 14 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks over the past six games, with Memphis winning seven of its past nine after a 4-11 start to the season.
With Edey, the Grizzlies have outscored opponents by 18.3 points per 100 possessions and have a defensive rating of 94.5 during the young standout’s 284 minutes on the floor.
Jock Landale is expected to return to the starting lineup during Edey’s absence, with power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. spending more time at center.
Grizzlies Provided More Injury Updates
The Grizzlies also announced other injury updates on Thursday.
Swingman John Konchar has a UCL tear in his left thumb and will undergo a procedure to repair the tear, while rookie guard Javon Small continues to make progress from the turf toe injury on his left foot.
Small is expected to be back in action in about three to five weeks, according to the Grizzlies.
Although the team didn’t provide an update on Ja Morant in its news release, the two-time All-Star point guard is close to returning from the right calf strain that has sidelined him since Nov. 15.
Per Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal, head coach Tuomas Iisalo said Morant went through a full practice on Thursday and a decision will be made about his availability for Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz.
