NHL Trade Rumors: New York Rangers Bench Artemi Panarin Before Imminent Deal

New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury is taking orders.

The line of potential customers stretches from coast to coast. The demand remains international.

Drury’s menu includes a series of delicacies, including Vincent Trocheck, Braden Schneider, and the main dish, Artemi Panarin.

A four-time NHL all-star, Panarin appears to have dressed for the final time with the Rangers. A healthy scratch during Wednesday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena, Drury referred to the move as roster management.

When will Drury deliver his trade?

NHL trade rumors suggest orders for Panarin are creating spice in the days leading up to the Feb. 4 Olympic roster freeze.

NHL Trade Rumors Connect Artemi Panarin To …

NHL analyst and former goalie Kevin Weekes listed the teams interested in Panarin. Those teams include the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Utah Mammoth, Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, Seattle Kraken, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and the Islanders, who remain busy.

The Detroit Red Wings have also been linked, according to CBS Sports, along with the Florida Panthers

Is there any GM in the league who is not taking a bite?

Considered the Rangers’ all-time top free-agent signee, Panarin looks to have finished his time in New York with 205 goals, 402 assists in 482 games. In franchise history, he ranks 14th in goals, eighth in assists and ninth with 607 points.

Since Drury announced the team “retool,” Panarin, who posted a team-best 57 points, instantly became one of the trade market’s top targets.

An unrestricted free agent this summer, Panarin compiled the fifth-most points (927) since his rookie season (2015-16). He earned the Calder Trophy as the league’s top first-year player. He did not dress during the Rangers’ 2-1 loss to the visiting Islanders on Thursday. The Islanders swept the season series for the first time since 2017-18, outscoring the Rangers, 14-3.

With Panarin, a $11.6 million cap hit arrives. Without a contract extension, it’s unlikely Drury will draw offers he otherwise would expect. But who wants to pay a 34-year-old?

Drury continues to take orders.
