Former Philadelphia 76ers owner and Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin couldn’t help but troll a New York Knicks fan for betting against the Sixers in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.

“Fanatics Sportsbook crushed it yesterday thanks to all the Knicks fans betting against the Sixers—it made me so happy!! I just wanted to say thank you to all the Knicks fans,” Rubin, who runs Fanatics Sportsbook as well, wrote in a now-deleted post on X.

The response came after the 76ers rallied for a 112-106 overtime win in Game 5 on Tuesday night, improving their series deficit to 3-2.   

Tyrese Maxey scored a playoff career-high 46 points to keep Philadelphia’s season alive. Joel Embiid finished with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists. 

According to Erich Richter of the New York Post, a spokesperson for Fanatics Sportsbook revealed that 63.5% of the handle was on the Knicks (-3.5), with almost no one betting the underdog Sixers on the moneyline.

Approximately 92.1% of the handle was on the Knicks’ moneyline, staying within the (-150) range. This should explain why Rubin was ecstatic when the Sixers starved off elimination on the road at Madison Square Garden. 

BetMGM revealed 79% of the handle was on the Knicks (-3.5), DraftKings said New York was the sportsbook’s highest liability 

Gamblers were also betting against the 76ers all across the board with other sportsbooks. Bettors had New York winning and covering the spread ahead of Game 5’s matchup. 

BetMGM reported that 79% of the handle was on the Knicks (-3.5), while DraftKings told Richter that “the Knicks were their highest liability of any NBA team” for Tuesday’s slate.

Since Rubin is a sportsbook owner and a die-hard 76ers fan, his response was expected after Philadelphia orchestrated a comeback for the ages in an elimination game. 

Although the Fanatics CEO deleted his first tweet trolling Knicks fans, he did decide to keep his response to a user questioning why he would celebrate bettors’ losses.

“Only cause it was the going against my squad!,” Rubin posted on X.

Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau felt almost as miserable as the losing bettor on Tuesday night after witnessing his team surrender seven points to Maxey in the final 25 seconds of regulation. 

“It was a tough way to lose because you get up six, eight and then we had a couple turnovers and we’ve got to just be better,” Tom Thibodeau said. 

“Play tougher with the lead, use good judgment. Fourth quarter is different, understand the difference. So we can do better and we will.”
