2022 NFL QB Grades: Terrific Trevor Lawrence Takes the Only Perfect Score of Week 3 While Patrick Mahomes Falls From the Top Spot
Welcome to Week 3 of our season-long NFL quarterback competition.
After handing out several perfect grades in Week 2, I awarded just one this week and the recipient certainly deserved it.
We’ve also got a new number one as Patrick Mahomes fell back multiple spots after spending the first two weeks at the top of the list.
So without further ado, let’s get to it.
32. Justin Fields, Chicago Bears (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 8-17, 106 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT; 8 rushes, 47 yards
Week 3 Grade: D-
The only thing keeping Justin Fields from a failing grade is the fact that the Bears beat the Houston Texans. But let’s not pretend Fields had much to do with it.
Khalil Herbert had a career day, rushing for 157 yards and two touchdowns. And the Chicago defense stepped up in the clutch, highlighted by a Roquan Smith interception late in the game to set up Cairo Santos’ game-winning field goal as time expired.
Fields continues to look terrible, and it’s a freaking miracle that the Bears are 2-1 right now, given how he’s played this year.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 23-45, 297 yards, 2 TD, 4 INT; 27 rushes, 95 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 67.2
31. Baker Mayfield, Carolina Panthers (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 12-25, 170 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT; 1 rush, -1 yard
Week 3 Grade: C
Baker Mayfield may have gotten his first win in a Carolina Panthers uniform, but he continues to look like an average quarterback who won’t get as big of a contract in free agency as he might like.
Mayfield threw for 170 yards in a 22-14 win over the Saints, but 67 of those come from his lone touchdown pass of the day to Laviska Shenault. Outside of that one throw, there once again wasn’t much to get excited about.
Mayfield continues to struggle with his accuracy as he completed just 12 of 25 passes, dropping his season completion percentage to a woeful 51.9%.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 42-81, 550 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT; 12 rushes, 40 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 72.4
30. Mitchell Trubisky, Pittsburgh Steelers (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 20-32, 207 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT; 2 rushes, 7 yards, 1 TD
Week 3 Grade: C
Mitchell Trubisky continues to look average for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Was he crazy terrible in the Week 3 loss to the Browns? No. But was he really good? Also no.
I will give him credit for finally throwing the ball downfield after not doing much of that the first two weeks. For the most part, however, he didn’t connect on those attempts.
And while the Steelers’ offense looked solid in the first half, the final 30 minutes were a different story. After scoring 14 points in the first two quarters, Pittsburgh managed just three in the second two on the way to a 29-17 loss.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 62-103, 2 TD, 1 INT; 6 rushes, 23 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 73.7
29. Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 25-41, 353 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT; 2 rushes, 5 yards
Week 3 Grade: C+
For three quarters on Sunday, Jameis Winston played a primarily clean game against the Panthers, despite not being able to get the Saints on the scoreboard. But the fourth quarter was a completely different story.
Winston finally got the Saints on the board with a four-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Callaway, but only after he threw an interception to Derrick Brown, which set up a field goal to give Carolina a 15-point lead.
Winston threw a second pick on a Hail Mary as time expired, securing the Panthers’ 22-14 victory. He’s now thrown 18 interceptions against Carolina in his career against 10 touchdowns, and his career record against the Panthers dropped to 4-7.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 73-115, 858 yards, 4 TD, 5 INT; 5 rushes, 16 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 75.5
28. Mac Jones, New England Patriots (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 22-32, 321 yards, 0 TD, 3 INT; 5 rushes, 31 yards, 1 TD
Week 3 Grade: C-
This might be the last entry we make for Mac Jones for a little while as the second-year signal-caller suffered an ankle injury at the end of the Patriots’ 37-26 loss to the Ravens. While X-rays were negative, he has a high sprain and is likely to miss multiple weeks.
But before the injury, Jones had an interesting stat line for the day. His completion percentage was solid at 68.8%. He threw for a career-high 321 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. But he threw zero touchdown passes and three interceptions.
Veteran Brian Hoyer and rookie Bailey Zappe are the other QB options for Bill Belichick.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 64-97, 2 TD, 5 INT; 14 rushes, 37 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 75.6
27. Davis Mills, Houston Texans (0-2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 20-32, 245 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
Week 3 Grade: C
The stage was all set for Davis Mills to give Texans head coach Lovie Smith his first victory over his former team on Sunday at Soldier Field. But Roquan Smith put a stop to that, didn’t he?
After playing a decent-enough game against the Bears, throwing for 245 yards and a touchdown, Mills threw his second interception of the game at the most inopportune moment.
On a 3rd &1 from their own 26 late in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 20, Mills was picked off by Roquan Smith, allowing the Bears to run down the clock to set up the game-winning field goal.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 62-107, 662 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT; 4 rushes, 0 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 76
26. Joe Flacco, New York Jets (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 28-52, 285 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT
Week 3 Grade: D
Following the Jets’ miraculous comeback against the Browns in Week 2, I said that Robert Saleh might have a tough call to make benching Joe Flacco when Zach Wilson was ready to return. But Flacco made that decision a little easier in New York’s 27-12 loss to the Bengals.
The veteran was under pressure most of the afternoon, completed just 53.8% of his passes, and was sacked four times. Flacco failed to record a touchdown pass for the first time this season but did throw a pair of interceptions.
He’d thrown just one in his previous two starts and likely returns to the QB2 role in Week 4 as Wilson is expected to make his comeback against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 91-155, 901 yards, 5 TD, 3 INT; 3 rushes, 6 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 76.2
25. Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 19-27, 264 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 4 rushes, 2 yards, 1 TD
Week 3 Grade: B-
Well, look at it this way, Titans fans. Ryan Tannehill still hasn’t played a great game this year, but at least he wasn’t as bad as he was a week ago.
Overall, Tannehill was solid enough as Tennessee picked up its first win of the year with a 24-22 victory over the Raiders. He completed 70.4% of his passes for 264 yards with a touchdown and an interception and also ran for a score. It was nothing flashy, but it was a nice performance to get the Titans in the win column.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 50-80, 647 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT; 7 rushes, 11 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 76.8
24. Daniel Jones, New York Giants (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 20-37, 196 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT; 9 rushes, 79 yards
Week 3 Grade: C-
Daniel Jones was able to run the ball a little bit on Monday night, gaining 79 yards on nine carries, but he struggled in the passing game in the Giants’ loss to the Cowboys.
The Dallas defense was relentless, sacking Jones five times in the 23-16 win, and Trevon Diggs picked him off as he was trying to lead a game-tying drive in the fourth quarter. Despite playing in New York, Jones isn’t a fan of the bright lights. He’s now 0-9 in primetime games.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 59-92, 560 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT; 25 rushes, 125 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 77
23. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers (0-1)
Week 3 Stats: 18-29, 211 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 1 rush, 0 yards
Week 3 Grade: C
How ugly was that Sunday night game between the 49ers and Broncos? And Jimmy Garopplo’s performance only played into it.
Look, we know what we’re typically from Jimmy G. And it’s worked out for him over the years. But his team needed more on Sunday night, and he couldn’t deliver. After an early touchdown pass from Garoppolo to Brandon Aiyuk, it seemed as if the Niners were playing not to lose instead of playing to win.
And then two late turnovers did them in, one a Garoppolo interception just ahead of the two-minute warning and the other a Jeff Wilson fumble with 65 seconds left that sealed the deal in the 11-10 loss.
It was just the second time in NFL history that a game ended with that ugly score, one that got help getting there because Jimmy G didn’t know where his feet were as he stepped out of the back of his own end zone for a safety, which was actually a good thing as he throws a pick-six otherwise.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 31-50, 365 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 5 rushes, 5 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 77.60
22. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 23-36, 275 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT; 5 rushes, 0 yards
Week 3 Grade: A
After a pair of subpar performances over the first two weeks of the season, Joe Burrow got back on track with a big day against the New York Jets to give the Bengals their first win of the 2022 campaign.
While most teams defer, Cincinnati took the ball after winning the opening coin toss and attacked the Jets immediately, marching down the field with an 11-play drive capped off by a 12-yard touchdown pass from Burrow to Samaje Perine.
Burrow also hit Tyler Boyd and Ja’Marr Chase with scoring passes as the Bengals cruised to a 27-12 victory.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 80-125, 812 yards, 6 TD, 4 INT; 15 rushes, 73 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 77.658
21. Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 13-20, 229 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 7 rushes, 4 yards, 1 TD
Week 3 Grade: B
Following a Week 2 loss to the defending champion LA Rams, the Falcons chose not to return to Atlanta and stayed on the West Coast to prep for their Week 3 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
And the lack of travel paid off as Marcus Mariota had his strongest performance of the young season, completing 65% of his passes for 229 yards with a touchdown and an interception while also adding his second rushing touchdown of the year in a 27-23 win.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 50-79, 640 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT; 25 rushes, 92 yards, 2 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 77.68
20. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 18-25, 249 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT; 3 rushes, 2 yards
Week 3 Grade: B
For the 11th time in 12 meetings, the Los Angeles Rams defeated the Arizona Cardinals. It certainly wasn’t the prettiest of victories, but a win is a win, and the defending champs have bounced back nicely from that opening-week drubbing at the hands of the Buffalo Bills.
Despite not throwing a touchdown pass in the 20-12 win, Matthew Stafford also didn’t throw an interception and completed 72% of his passes, while the LA defense did an excellent job in containing Kyler Murray. Like the Rams overall, Stafford wasn’t pretty, but he did enough to get his team to 2-1.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 74-102, 761 yards, 4 TD, 5 INT; 4 rushes, 4 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 77.74
19. Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 20-33, 184 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT; 6 rushes, 17 yards
Week 3 Grade: C+
Let’s not pretend Russell Wilson played a pretty game against the 49ers in primetime on Sunday night. Because he didn’t. But he still has the Broncos at 2-1 and in a tie atop the AFC West with the Kansas City Chiefs.
On the night, Wilson went three-and-out nine times, the most of any game in his storied career. But the one drive he absolutely needed to make to win, he made it, taking the Broncos 80 yards on 12 plays in the fourth quarter to set up the go-ahead touchdown from Melvin Gordon, who made up for his two fumbles with the one-yard score.
And Wilson let his defense take charge from there. Is anybody else seeing Peyton Manning’s final year play out with Russ here? Not playing great, but the defense is good, and Denver wins? How’d that turn out?
2022 NFL Season Stats: 63-106, 743 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 9 rushes, 22 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 78.5
18. Jacoby Brissett, Cleveland Browns (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 21-31, 220 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT; 3 rushes, 11 yards
Week 3 Grade: B+
Fresh off a humiliating defeat, the Cleveland Browns bounced back nicely with a big division win over the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
And Jacoby Brissett played another solid game of football. And it was all the more impressive as he was on short rest. The journeyman completed 67.7% of his passes and connected with Amari Cooper and David Njoku for touchdowns in a 29-17 win.
In three games as the replacement starter for the suspended Deshaun Watson, Brissett has thrown just one interception and continues to see his 2022 season score rise in our rankings.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 61-92, 596 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT; 13 rushes, 64 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 78.8
17. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (0-3)
Week 3 Stats: 26-44, 303 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 2 rushes, 17 yards
Week 3 Grade: B-
Another week and another Raiders loss as Las Vegas is the only winless team in the NFL after three weeks. But it’s not as if they’re getting blown out, as their three losses have been by a combined 13 points. But they just can’t seem to get over the top.
And it’s not as if Derek Carr is playing completely terrible football. Is he playing up to his talent level right now? No, he isn’t, especially given the weapons at his disposal. But he’s keeping his team in games for the most part.
His accuracy certainly wasn’t the greatest in Sunday’s loss to the Titans, as he completed just 59.1% of his passes. But he topped the 300-yard mark and threw a pair of touchdowns against one pick in the two-point defeat. One has to think Carr & Co. will get that elusive win soon.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 73-120, 850 yards, 6 TD, 4 INT; 3 rushes, 26 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 79.03
16. Matt Ryan, Indianapolis Colts (1-1-1)
Week 3 Stats: 27-37, 222 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT; 3 rushes, 4 yards
Week 3 Grade: B+
This is the Matt Ryan the Indianapolis Colts and their fans have been waiting to see.
After two weeks of disappointing results, a tie with the Texans and a shutout loss to the Jaguars, Ryan looked a lot more comfortable on Sunday in leading the Colts to a 20-17 upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Ryan completed 73% of his passes for 222 yards and led a marvelous final drive for the win, hitting Jelani Woods with a 12-yard touchdown strike with 24 seconds to put Indy ahead for good. Both of Ryan’s touchdown passes went to the rookie.
I nearly went with an A- here, but five sacks and two fumbles kept that from happening.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 75-117, 769 yards, 3 TD, 4 INT; 7 rushes, 16 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 79.04
15. Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 25-43, 211 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT; 3 rushes, 22 yards
Week 3 Grade: C-
lf you were only to judge Carson Wentz by the stat line above, you might think he didn’t have such a bad day. But he was essentially completely ineffective against his former team in a 24-8 loss.
All but 24 of his 211 passing yards came in the second half, and by that point, the game was already over. The Commanders’ offense as a whole had just 50 yards at halftime as the Philly defense swarmed all day long, sacking Wentz nine times.
He’ll look to get Washington back to .500 in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 82-130, 861 yards; 11 rushes, 57 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 80.1
14. Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 24-41, 260 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT; 1 rush, -1 yard
Week 3 Grade: B+
And the back-and-forth swing of Kirk Cousins continues.
In Week 1, he looked ready to compete for an NFL MVP trophy, outdueling Aaron Rodgers. But then, in Week 2, he had a dreadful showing against the Eagles and dropped out of the top 20 in our rankings.
And here we are in Week 3 with a B+ performance against the Lions. Cousins didn’t get off to the greatest start as the Vikings fell behind, 14-0. Minnesota was also down 24-14 before rallying back for a shocking 28-24 win on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Cousins to K.J. Osborn with 45 seconds remaining in the final quarter.
Now we wait to see how Cousins performs in Week 4 when Minnesota travels to London to play the New Orleans Saints.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 74-119, 758 yards, 5 TD, 3 INT; 3 rushes, 19 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 80.7
13. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 37-58, 314 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT; 2 rushes, 8 yards
Week 3 Grade: B-
Like his counterpart Matthew Stafford in the Rams-Cardinals NFC West showdown on Sunday, Kyler Murray didn’t throw a touchdown pass but also didn’t throw an interception. And that’s really hard to do when you attempt 58 passes, which Murray did in the 20-12 loss.
The Rams’ defense essentially allowed Murray to complete short passes of five to 10 yards but was determined not to let him beat them down the field, which he didn’t. Murray put his team in position several times to score, but the Cardinals had to settle for four field goals.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 90-141, 784 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT; 12 rushes, 65 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 81
12. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 25-41, 277 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 2 rushes, 8 yards
Week 3 Grade: B-
The fun part for Jared Goff on Sunday was helping the Detroit Lions set an NFL record by scoring a touchdown in each of their first 11 quarters to start this 2022 season.
The not-so-fun part was that the streak ended when Detroit failed to score at all in the fourth quarter against the rival Vikings, opening the door for Minnesota to complete a 10-point comeback for a 28-24 win.
Goff certainly wasn’t as good as he was last week against Washington, but he played a decent football game. He upped his completion percentage a bit, connecting on 25 of 41 passes, and threw one touchdown and one interception. He just needed to do a bit more down the stretch and couldn’t get it done.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 66-112, 748 yards, 7 TD, 2 INT; 6 rushes, 15 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 82.2
11. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 31-42, 271 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT; 1 rush, -1 yard
Week 3 Grade: B
We’re still waiting for that big breakout game from Tom Brady this 2022 season, but the seven-time Super Bowl champ played a solid game in a 14-12 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Playing what could be his last game against Aaron Rodgers, Brady completed 73.8% of his passes for 271 yards with a late touchdown pass to Russell Gage, capping off an 89-yard drive that gave the Buccaneers a chance to tie the game with a two-point conversion.
But that bid fell short as Tampa Bay inexplicably let the play clock run out on the first attempt, forcing a five-yard penalty. Playing from the seven-yard line, Brady, who was without the services of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Julio Jones, saw his pass attempt into the end zone get tipped at the line of scrimmage by De’Vondre Campbell, who had a monster day with 14 tackles.
Up next for TB12 & Co. is a high-profile showdown on Sunday night with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl 55 rematch.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 67-103, 673 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT; 6 rushes, -4 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 82.7
10. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 27-35, 255 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 1 rush, -1 yard
Week 3 Grade: A-
Following an opening-week dud of a performance against the Minnesota Vikings, Aaron Rodgers got back on track last week with a solid outing against the Chicago Bears. And he continued his ascent back to MVP form with another strong performance in Week 3 in a 14-12 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In what could be his final outing with Tom Brady on the opposite sideline, Rodgers completed 77.2% of his passes for 255 yards with touchdown passes to Romeo Doubs and Allen Lazard on the Packers’ first two possessions, which turned out to be enough in the two-point win.
The victory was Rodgers’ second against Brady in six tries.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 68-94, 684 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT; 7 rushes, 8 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 82.9
9. Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 32-44, 325 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 2 rushes, -1 yard
Week 3 Grade: B+
Nobody was expecting much from the Seattle Seahawks this year. And at the end of the season, they likely won’t have more than five or six wins. And that might be a bit generous.
But I’ve been impressed with how Geno Smith has played through three weeks. He played another good game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, recording his first 300-yard game since 2014.
Smith continues to be highly accurate, completing 72.7% of his passes on Sunday, which actually dropped his season completion percentage to 77.5%. He threw a pair of touchdown passes, and his lone interception came on a desperation toss on 4th &18 from the Falcons’ 38-yard line with 90 seconds remaining in the game.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 79-102, 717 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT; 8 rushes, 15 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 84.2
8. Cooper Rush, Dallas Cowboys (2-0)
Week 3 Stats: 21-31, 215 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT; 2 rushes, -2 yards
Week 3 Grade: B
Another week and another win for Cooper Rush, who’s now 3-0 as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
Should Dak Prescott be worried? Probably not. But Rush has played solid football the last two weeks and has America’s Team at 2-1 following a 23-16 win on Monday night over the previously unbeaten New York Giants.
We’re likely never going to see the video game numbers from Rush that Dak can post, but the undrafted Central Michigan product is getting the job done. He completed 67.7% of his passes against New York and brought the Cowboys back from a second-half deficit, leading an 89-yard drive in the fourth quarter for the go-ahead score.
He’s just the fourth Cowboys quarterback to win his first three starts and only the second in the Super Bowl era to win his first three career starts by leading a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 47-75, 514 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT; 3 rushes, 0 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 85
7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers (1-2)
Week 3 Stats: 25-45, 297 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 1 rush, 7 yards
Week 3 Grade: B-
While you have to give it up to Justin Herbert for giving it a go on Sunday against the Jaguars, it was clear that his rib injury affected his game. It also didn’t help that he was without starting center Corey Linsley and star wideout Keenan Allen.
Herbert completed just 55.6% of his passes in the 38-10 loss with one touchdown and one interception. He also lost a fumble. The Chargers had the ball for just 22 minutes and could never get anything going. They weren’t far behind early in the second half, but Trevor Lawrence and the Jags took over in the third quarter and never looked back.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 84-127, 910 yards, 7 TD, 2 INT; 7 rushes, 9 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 87.5
6. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (3-0)
Week 3 Stats: 13-18, 186 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT; 1 rush, 0 yards
Week 3 Grade: B
For the second straight week, Tua Tagovailoa squared off with a high-profile quarterback. And for the second straight week, he and the Dolphins walked away with a big victory, giving Miami a 3-0 record and the top spot in the AFC East.
Tagovailoa certainly wasn’t as dynamic as he was a week ago against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens when he threw for a career-high 469 yards and six touchdowns. But he played an efficient football game against Buffalo, completing 72.2% of his passes for 186 yards and a touchdown.
There was a scary moment in which Tua left the game for a short time in the second quarter as he appeared to be suffering from a head injury. The Dolphins later said their signal-caller was dealing with a back injury, which led the NFL to investigate how Miami evaluated Tagovailoa for a concussion.
Assuming he’s cleared, Tua faces another high-profile QB on Thursday night as Miami visits the Cincinnati Bengals.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 72-101, 925 yards, 8 TD, 2 INT; 4 rushes, 1 yard, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 89.7
5. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 20-35, 262 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 4 rushes, 26 yards
Week 3 Grade: B-
Falling from the No. 1 overall spot this week is Patrick Mahomes, who finally looked human as the Kansas City Chiefs were upset by the Indianapolis Colts, 20-17.
The 2018 NFL MVP was uncharacteristically inaccurate on Sunday, completing just 57.1% of his passes in the Chiefs’ first defeat of the ’22 campaign. Despite not hitting on all cylinders, Mahomes was given a chance to win the game late in the fourth quarter but picked the wrong time to throw his first interception of the season.
But perhaps more disturbing was the sideline argument between Mahomes and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who had to be separated by Andy Reid. We’ll see if things have been resolved when Kansas City looks to exact revenge on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Super Bowl 55 rematch next Sunday night in primetime.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 74-109, 857 yards, 8 TD, 1 INT; 9 rushes, 30 yards
2022 NFL Season Score: 90.8
4. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 28-39, 262 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT; 3 rushes, 7 yards
Week 3 Grade: A+
l’ll tell you what, folks. Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars might just end up being the best story of the entire 2022 NFL season.
Coming into Sunday’s matchup in LA against the Chargers, the Jags had lost 18 straight games on the road. But Lawrence wasn’t letting that streak reach 19 as he led Jacksonville to a 38-10 rout, the franchise’s largest margin of victory away from home since a 33-3 win over Minnesota in 2001.
Lawrence played about as clean of a game as you can, not taking a sack and not throwing an interception while completing 71.8% of his passes for 262 yards with three touchdowns. It was the second three-TD game of Lawrence’s young career, and plenty more are on the way.

3. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles (3-0)
Week 3 Stats: 22-35, 340 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT; 9 rushes, 20 yards
Week 3 Grade: A
For the second straight week, Jalen Hurts was fantastic and continues to look like one of the most elite quarterbacks in the NFL in 2022.
And for the second straight week, he threw for more than 300 yards as the Eagles decimated the Washington Commanders, 24-8. Hurts completed 22 of 35 passes, eight to DeVonta Smith, who had a career day with 169 yards and a touchdown.
Up next for Hurts and the Eagles is a showdown with Trevor Lawrence and the surprising Jacksonville Jaguars.

2. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 18-29, 218 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT; 11 rushes, 107 yards, 1 TD
Week 3 Grade: A
We’re soon going to start running out of adjectives to describe Lamar Jackson. For the second consecutive week, the two-time Pro Bowler looked as if he’s ready to make a run at a second NFL MVP award as he accounted for five touchdowns in the Ravens’ 37-26 win over the Patriots.
In throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for 107 yards and a score, Jackson became the first player in the Super Bowl era with at least three TD passes and at least 100 rushing yards in consecutive games. He had three touchdown passes and 119 rushing yards last week in that epic battle with Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins.
The only blips on Jackson’s stat sheet in Week 3 were the four sacks he took and his one interception, which keeps him from an A+ grade.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 56-88, 749 yards, 10 TD, 2 INT; 26 rushes, 243 yards, 2 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 92.2
1. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (2-1)
Week 3 Stats: 42-63, 400 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT; 8 rushes, 47 yards
Week 3 Grade: A
Josh Allen was a busy guy against the Dolphins. After throwing a combined 69 passes in the Bills’ first two games of the 2022 season, the 26-year-old took to the air 63 times on Sunday, connecting on 42 of them for an even 400 yards with two touchdowns. He was also interception-free for the second straight week.
Unfortunately for the Buffalo faithful, clock management was an issue at the end of the game as the Bills were attempting to get themselves in position for a game-winning field goal attempt. But Allen & Co. ran out of time and took their first loss of the year, 21-19.
2022 NFL Season Stats: 94-132, 1,014 yards, 9 TD, 2 INT; 19 rushes, 113 yards, 1 TD
2022 NFL Season Score: 95.2
