The US Open is taking a risk with reformatting the mixed doubles championship in 2025.  While initially met with ire and disappointment about moving it to the week prior to the main draw action and giving it more of an exhibition feel, it may work out well after all because highly reputable players have tossed their hats in the ring to participate.

Who is playing in US Open mixed doubles championship?

  1. World No. 1’s will be in action.  Jannik Sinner is partnering with Emma Navarro, and Aryna Sabalenka will play alongside Grigor Dimitrov.

Some teams are aligned by country.  Tommy Paul and Jessica Pegula, Frances Tiafoe and Madison Keys, and Ben Shelton and Taylor Townsend are the all US teams.  Novak Djokovic will compete with fellow Serbian Olga Danilovic.  Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva and Lorenzo Musetti and Jasmine Paolini will participate.
  3. Teams we have seen before are making an encore appearance.  Real life partners Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa will play.  Eisenhower Cup champions Taylor Fritz and Elena Rybakina are reuniting in New York.
  4. The clay court conquerors Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud will partner on the US Open hardcourts.
  5. The two “get your popcorn ready” teams are Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu and Nick Kyrgios and Naomi Osaka.
  6. Other teams include French Open doubles champions Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani, Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic, and Jack Draper and Qinwen Zheng.

One noteworthy admission from the list is French Open champion Coco Gauff, an accomplished doubles player with various partners in the past few years, including Taylor Fritz at the 2025 United Cup.  Her decision to not play the event is an interesting one.

The US Open has attracted the big names, and now it hopes the ticket sales soar.  The mixed doubles championship is played over two days, August 19 and 20.
