Aaron Rodgers has been taking his time in deciding on his future, as he often does. But according to certain reports over the past few days, the notion that he’ll be joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 season has been gaining momentum, and an official decision could be looming.

Rumors Involving Steelers & Aaron Rodgers Are Heating Up

Rodgers is now 41 years old, and well removed from his days as a league MVP. His two years with the New York Jets organization were an abject disappointment, marred by both injury and generally sub-par performances from the quarterback. He and the team parted ways after the 2024 campaign, and there were plenty of questions about where he’d be to start the 2025 season.

Would he join the Raiders? Would the Giants be interested? Could call it a career and announce his retirement from the game?

We are well into the free agency period of the current off-season, and no decision has been made. In fact, the options are dwindling, as many of the potentially interested teams have already filled their vacancies at the position.

Except for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team has two quarterbacks currently on their active roster, neither of which is considered a starting-caliber player in the NFL. It is unlikely that Mike Tomlin and company enter the 2025 campaign with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson as their only options at QB, meaning that they’ll have to address the issue at some point before the summer begins.

On Monday, there were photos and videos that revealed Aaron Rodgers and new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf having a workout/throwing session on a field at UCLA. That came on the heels of a visit that Rodgers had at the team’s facility in Pittsburgh the week prior, which was said to be positive but ended without the two sides striking a deal.

But during the annual owner’s meetings that are taking place this week in Florida, Rodgers has been a topic of discussion, and it signs are pointing to a partnership between him and the Steelers. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, there is “a lot of positivity” surrounding the potential pairing.

With many of the other vacancies around the league being filled during the free agency period, there aren’t many options left for Aaron Rodgers. There is of course the Steelers starting job, and the Minnesota Vikings are still staying in the running, though with less reported interest than that coming out of Pittsburgh.
