Amanda Anisimova, nicknamed “Double A” is earning an “A” grade for her 2025 WTA season.
The American star is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, in back-to-back Slams, Wimbledon and the US Open, and is knocking on the door of another WTA 1000 title at the China Open. It would be her second of the year; she earned the first at Doha early in the season.
Anisimova is the epitome of grit, second chances, and living her own truth after a much publicized break from tennis in 2023 that involved taking college classes. Double A used the time to develop her other passions and to focus on her mental health.
The plan obviously worked because she is back and better than ever.

Anisimova has beaten the World No. 1, 2, and 3 players in 2025 tournaments. She defeated Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon, Iga Swiatek at the US Open, and defending China Open champion Coco Gauff in the semifinals of this year’s China Open.
The recent defeat of Gauff was among the most impressive because it happened in under an hour, and Gauff only won three games in the match.

That was the best tennis Double A played so far this year.
The question is, can she do it again against an equally impressive Linda Noskova in the China Open final on Sunday.

Linda Noskova showed plenty of her own grit to defend match points and defeat Jessica Pegula in the semifinal. It took over two hours so Anisimova should be the fresher player, but Noskova is knocking on the door of her own greatness as she tries to climb to the top of this generation’s Czech Republic women’s tennis players, a country loaded with talent for decades.
Anisimova and Noskova have met twice before and split the results.
Whatever happens in Sunday’s China Open final, Amanda Anisimova has a lot of tennis yet to play this year as she has qualified for the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in November.
