Amanda Anisimova

It is the biggest tournament win of Amanda Anisimova‘s career, but it required patience. On her way to becoming the 2025 Qatar TotalEneergies Open champion, Anisimova had to endure a rain delay and Jelena Ostapenko’s perseverance.

Anisimova is 23 years old but has dealt with her share of injuries and off-the-court issues that prompted her to take a break from the game in late 2023.  She took classes and worked hard to find her happiness.  Anisimova returned to the game vowing to enjoy the process regardless of the outcome.

An emotional Amanda Anisimova fell in relief and celebration after match point. She is the first American to win the Doha title since Monica Seles did in 2002.

Just as Madison Keys had a breakthrough at the Australian Open, this is Amanda Anisimova’s breakthrough moment.

Anisimova Is One Of A Large Group Of Talented American Women

As the American women are enjoying five players (Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Madison Keys, Emma Navarro, and Danielle Collins) in the Top 20, Anisimova is making her move up the rankings.  She is currently ranked 41st behind 40th-ranked Ashlyn Krueger and ahead of 47th-ranked Peyton Stearns.  With eight players in the Top 50, American women’s singles tennis is thriving.

With Gauff and Keys winning Grand Slams, the question is if and when one of these women or another American will win a Grand Slam.  This tennis year has been filled with broken streaks.  Aryna Sabalenka was denied a third-straight Australian Open.  Iga Swiatek did not win a fourth-straight Doha title.

Could an American woman step up in the upcoming Sunshine Swing in Indian Wells and Miami?  Or could Iga Swiatek’s Roland Garros winning streak (three in a row and four of the last five) go by the wayside?
