Andy Reid has backed Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce to step into coaching after he retires as player.

Reid knows exactly what a good coach looks like considering his own resume includes four Super Bowl rings (one as an assistant with the Green Bay Packers) as well as AP NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2020.

The 66-year-old has the scars to prove it through 40 years of experience in the game and it’s probably worth trusting his judgement on a subject like this, which is good news for Kelce if he does have an interest in coaching after hanging up his cleats.

Kelce, 35, is gearing towards the end of his career as a player and his numbers took a step back this year for a second season in a row which has led some to believe the Super Bowl could be his final rodeo in uniform.

While his numbers took a slight dip, they are by no means bad and he still earned a tenth Pro Bowl selection with 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns in the regular season.

Reid sang his praises when making an appearance on ‘The Herd’ this week and the endorsement was quite something:

“Travis would be a heck of a football coach. He’s able to get up there and explain things and teach these young guys exactly what he sees and feels…he’s got a good feel for the game.”

According to the best USA betting sites, Kelce is a general +1600 chance to win Super Bowl MVP in New Orleans when the Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles.

While Reid is clearly keen to see the veteran try his hand at coaching, Kelce could have other ideas including venturing into the media which is something he’s played a big part in over the last few years.

The seven-time All-Pro’s podcast ‘New Heights’ alongside his brother and Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason is one of the most popular shows in all of sport and he clearly has a knack for it.

Whatever he decides, there is little doubt he’ll find success.
