The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the more successful franchises in the NFL over the past eight years. 2025 will mark the third time that they’ve qualified for the Super Bowl in that time frame, won one Lombardi Trophy, and they’ve finished with a losing record just one time since 2017.

But they weren’t always finishing at the top of their division and making appearances in the biggest game of the year. In fact, many Eagles fans considered the team to be cursed up until they finally broke through in the last decade, as they had endured years of hardship and heartbreak throughout the history of the franchise.

How Many Super Bowls Have The Philadelphia Eagles Won?

They’ve been in existence for nearly 100 years, but only recently have enjoyed any Super Bowl success. From 1967 until 2016, the Eagles had played in just two Super Bowls and ended up losing them both. They went up against the Raiders in the big game following the 1980 NFL season, but lost 27-10 in their first appearance. They wouldn’t get another chance until 2004, and were unable to overcome Tom Brady and the Patriots, leaving one of the league’s oldest franchises ringless despite a proud history.

Eagles Super Bowl History

Super Bowl Opponent Score Super Bowl Record
XV Oakland Raiders OAK 27, PHI 10 0-1
XXIX New England Patriots NE 24, PHI 21 0-2
LII New England Patriots PHI 41, NE 33 1-2
LVII Kansas City Chiefs KC 38, PHI 35 1-3

There was plenty of heartbreak in the years when they fell short of the Super Bowl, too. One of the best stretches in the history of the Eagles was 2001 through 2004. They had Andy Reid as their head coach and Donovan McNabb as their quarterback, and placed first in the NFC East in four straight years.

But they not only won their division those years. Philadelphia also made it all the way to the NFC Championship game each time. It was around that time that a “curse” seemed like a logical explanation for their postseason shortcomings, a team that was widely regarded as one of the league’s best year after year, only to lose to the Rams, Buccaneers, and Panthers in consecutive years. They finally broke through on their fourth try, but that was the year that the Patriots stood in their way.

First Super Bowl Win Came During 2017 Season

The tide finally turned in 2017. Projected to win 8.5 games before the season started, the Eagles surprised everyone and finished as the no. 1 seed in the NFC with a 13-3 record. But they began to be counted out when starting quarterback Carson Wentz tore his ACL late in the season. Career journeyman Nick Foles came on in relief, and it appeared that the promising campaign was effectively over. They were able to overcome two underdog statuses in the playoffs, however, in order to qualify for the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, it was the same Tom Brady and the Patriots standings in their way again. New England was favored by 4.5-points, but it was the Eagles who made the right plays this time around. Philadelphia wound up winning by a score of 41-33, earning their first Super Bowl victory in their long and tortured history. It remains their only win in the big game.

There is a statue of Nick Foles that now sits outside of Lincoln Financial Field.

They would get back just a few years later, and under an entirely new regime. In Nick Sirriani’s second year as the team’s head coach, the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl following the 2022 season, and were listed as 1-point favorites to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. But they came up three points short of their second ever title, and will look to avenge that loss against that same Kansas City team in 2025.

Total Playoff Games: 54 (28-26)

Wild Card: 20 (9-11)

Divisional: 17 (10-7)

NFC Championship: 9 (5-4)

Super Bowl: 4 (1-3)

Pre-Super Bowl Championships: 4 (3-1)

In all, the Philadelphia Eagles have played 54 postseason games in their 90+ year history. They are currently 28-26 in those contests. Their conference championship record sits at 5-4, and they are 1-3 in Super Bowls. They did win three championships in the pre-Super Bowl era (1948, 1949, & 1960).
