Are The New York Giants Setting Up Jaxson Dart For Failure?

The New York Giants made a change at quarterback on Tuesday, as it was announced that rookie Jaxson Dart will be taking over the starting job. And while it is something for the team’s fan base to be excited about, the timing is curious given their upcoming schedule.

Giants, Dart Will Take On Tough Defenses In Coming Weeks

In his first year with the Giants, Russell Wilson quickly fell out of favor. He lasted just three games as the team’s starting signal caller, as Big Blue had limped out to a winless start, and fans in New York booed during Sunday night’s putrid performance against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Their wish was granted on Tuesday when it was announced that Dart would be under center for Week 4, but the youngster certainly has his work cut out for him.

In the upcoming weeks, and for much of the remainder of the season for that matter, the Giants will be facing some tough defenses. Dart will throw his first NFL pass this coming Sunday against the Chargers, who have allowed the 4th-fewest points so far this season. They’ll then take on the Saints in Week 5, which will be followed by a brutal stretch of defenses.

In the span of four weeks, from October 9th through November 2nd, Dart will go up against the defenses of the Broncos, 49ers, and twice against the Eagles. In the latter months of the season, the Giants have dates scheduled with the Packers, Lions, and Vikings.

Will the rookie QB be up to the task? Making the leap from college to the NFL is never seamless, and the Giants know growing pains are inevitable. But for a fan base hungry for stability at the position, Dart represents hope.

With the season already slipping away, seeing their young quarterback have any type of success during his first year would help with any potential optimism.
