ATP Finals Day 3: Three Set Wins For Carlos Alcaraz And Lorenzo Musetti

The straight set wins that dominated the first two days of the 2025 ATP Finals created a bit of a snoozer of an event, but on Day 3, the action heated up as Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti both needed three sets to earn their wins.

Taylor Fritz played a great match against Carlos Alcaraz. It could have gone either way except Alcaraz played better for about five minutes of the match, and that was the difference. Alcaraz dropped the first set in a tiebreaker. However, he made subtle changes to his game including court position to win the next two sets. Fritz was on the unlucky end of multiple net courts.

Lorenzo Musetti’s comeback against Alex de Minaur was the most exciting match of the ATP Finals thus far. Musetti won the first set, dropped the second set, and grinded his way back in the third set after falling behind 3-5, cheered on by the home fans. His significant other, Veronica, who is expecting their second child, was wiping her eyes amid his emotional comeback.

Musetti also produced one of the always awe inspiring through the legs shots. The match was physical with 30+ shot rallies. With Musetti playing a full schedule up until last week in Athens trying to earn his spot, fans wonder how much he has left in the tank.

Because of the outcomes today, all four men are still in contention for the semifinals. Thursday’s matches will be vital. Fritz will play de Minaur, and Alcaraz will play Musetti.

Wednesday’s action will feature defending champion Jannik Sinner who will take on Alexander Zverev in the night match. Ben Shelton will face Felix Auger-Aliassime earlier in the day.
