Carlos Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz to win the 2025 Japan Open.
Fritz defeated Alcaraz for the first time in his career at the 2025 Laver Cup. Many wondered if he could do it for the second time in less than 10 days.

Alcaraz took the ATP 500 title in straight sets.
Given the fact that Alcaraz was injured during the tournament, he bounced back well, played smart tennis, and got the win.
There was a brief hiccup in the second set when Alcaraz served for the match with a double break and was broken. Fritz won two games in a row and got the win when he served for it the second time.
Taylor Fritz Needed A Medical Timeout
Fritz dealt with a left leg injury during the match. He took a medical timeout and played the rest of the way with a heavily wrapped quadricep.
It bears repeating that the tennis season is too long, and by this point, the ninth month of the season, everyone is mentally and physically fatigued.

Carlos Alcaraz Trying To Finish Year At World No. 1
Alcaraz is trying to hold off Jannik Sinner in the ATP rankings race to finish the season at World No. 1.
He has 11,540 points. Sinner has 10,780, but he has advanced to Wednesday’s China Open final. A victory there is worth 500 points.
Sinner will play the winner of the Daniil Medvedev and Learner Tien semifinal.
Alcaraz And Sinner Continue To Separate Themselves From The Rest
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are playing at a different level than everyone else.
They won all of the Grand Slams in the past two calendar years.
To put it in perspective, World No. 3 Alexander Zverev has earned 5,930 points.
Alcaraz and Sinner are clearly pushing each other to compete at high levels while their peers are trying to improve their games to catch them.
