Brian Schottenheimer Emerges as New Betting Favorite to Land Cowboys' Head Coaching Job

The Dallas Cowboys are staying in-house for their next head coach. The Cowboys are promoting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Jane Slater reported on Friday night.

Brian Schottenheimer Will Be Cowboys Next Head Coach

Schottenheimer succeeds Mike McCarthy, who served as the head coach for the last five seasons.

The Cowboys also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, and Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier.

Schottenheimer joined the Cowboys as a coaching analyst in 2022 and the offensive coordinator from 2003-2004.

Schottenheimer’s father, Marty, coached four NFL teams and ended his career with the seventh-most wins (200) in NFL history.

Schottenheimer, 51, has been coaching since 1997. His notable stints include the New York Jets (2006-2011, offensive coordinator), St. Louis Rams (2012-2014, offensive coordinator), and Seattle Seahawks (2018-2020).

The Cowboys finished 7-10 in an injury-plagued 2024 and missed the postseason.

McCarthy led the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-win seasons from 2021-2023. Dallas never advanced past the Divisional Round.

For the Cowboys, keeping Schottenheimer allows for continuity with Dak Prescott and the offense.
