Brock Purdy is looking for a lucrative new contract with the 49ers this offseason. But San Francisco appears to be starting the negotiations with a rather low offer.

Purdy has been arguably the best value in the NFL over the least couple of seasons. Thanks to being the last pick in the 2022 Draft, the 49ers have owed their quarterback less than $1 million for each of the last three years, and have gotten outstanding production from Purdy that included two deep playoff runs and a Super Bowl appearance.

49ers Reportedly Offering Purdy $45 Million To Start Negotiations

Because of his success, Purdy is due for a big pay day. He still has one year left on his rookie deal, but is looking to extend for long-term security.

Purdy and his agent are likely looking for numbers similar to extensions that have been signed recently by other quarterbacks. In just the last year, guys like Tua Tagovailoa, Jordan Love, and Trevor Lawrence have locked in deals worth $53 million or more annually. The argument can certainly be made that Purdy has outperformed all three, both statistically and in team success, and should feel like he deserves that same value or better.

But according to reports, the 49ers are going to play hardball. It was reported on Tuesday that San Francisco was starting the negotiations at a $45 million annual value. It is a number that fans and pundits alike have already begun to scoff at, and Purdy likely will as well.

The 49ers have big price tags connected to many of their top players, including Brandon Aiyuk, Nick Bosa, and others. They’re looking to save future cash in any way they can in order to remain competitive, and that apparently includes a somewhat lowball offer in their negotiations with Purdy.

We can expect negotiations to last late into the summer. San Francisco has become notorious for dragging out contract talks in recent years, which has caused Aiyuk, Bosa, and Trent Williams to be training camp holdouts in recent years. The Brock Purdy situation appears to be no different, so don’t expect to see a decision any time soon.
