Deshaun Watson has suffered a serious fall from grace over the past few years. In January, he suffered a re-repture the Achilles tendon that he tore back in October, which has put his 2025 comeback with the Cleveland Browns in serious jeopardy. There are plenty of people assuming that his days as an elite NFL quarterback are well over, but the 29-year-old says that the naysayers are fueling his drive, and he is confident that he will be able to come back as strong, or stronger, than ever.

Deshaun Watson Says The Doubters Are Fueling His Comeback

Watson’s career path took a serious downward turn when he was accused by 22 different women of sexual assault. He was one of the top QBs in the league leading up to 2021, but hasn’t been nearly the same player since his legal troubles. He was traded to the Browns in 2022 and was handed the most guaranteed money in league history, which the team now admits was a mistake. In the three years that he has been with the organization, Watson has played in just 19 total games, has thrown 19 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, and has seen his completion percentage drop from 67.8% down to 61.2%.

It was widely assumed that his days with the Browns organization were numbered when he suffered his latest injury. The Achilles tear is projected to keep him out for the entirety of the upcoming 2025 NFL season, which has forced Cleveland to pursue their next quarterback of the future. But he’s planning on coming back better than ever, at least according to the video that he posted on Instagram on Thursday.

“Everyone is doubting me,” Watson claimed in the 80-second clip that features scenes of him in the workout room. “Everyone don’t think I can get back to where I was. But I know and I believe…I know I’m going to be way better than before.”

Watson burst onto the NFL scene after being drafted by the Houston Texans in 2017, making three Pro Bowls in his four active seasons with the team. In 2020, he led the league in passing yards by racking up 4,832, and tossed 33 touchdowns against 7 interceptions. He hasn’t played more than 7 games in any single year that he has been a part of the Browns organization.
