“Cool Joe” still has some left in the tank.
Browns quarterback Joe Flacco completed 21 of 36 passes for 142 yards and an interception in the 13-10 upset victory over the Green Bay Packers.
The Browns’ execution on the game’s final drive was flawless, gaining 16 yards on five plays to set up the game-winning 55-yard field goal by Andre Szmyt as time expired to give Cleveland the win.
The biggest story for Cleveland was its defense, which held Jordan Love and the Packers offense to 230 total yards. Browns rookie Carson Schwesinger led the way with 10 tackles and one sack.
Meanwhile, Myles Garrett could not be stopped, finishing with six tackles and half a sack.
On Monday Night Football, Detroit pulled off an impressive 38-30 victory on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. Those who wrote the Lions off after the Week 1 loss to the Packers now look foolish.
Detroit got back to its roots in Week 3 and pounded the rock. David Montgomery finished with 151 yards and two touchdowns, while Jahmyr Gibbs added 67 yards and two touchdowns.
The trenches were the difference in the game. The Lions’ offensive line did not allow a sack. On the flip side, the Lions’ defense contained Lamar Jackson and sacked him seven times.
If the Lions can run the ball efficiently and win the sack battle, they will be one of the NFL’s last teams standing in January.
The location of this game might hold the key to this game. In one home game this season, the Detroit offense scored 51 points.
The Browns’ defense has allowed 13.5 points per game at home. In one road game, the Browns surrendered 41 points to the Ravens.
If this number gets over 10, it’s probably a stay-away. If the line is 10 points or less, then I’ll back the Lions and this prolific offense to cover.
Pick: Lions -9.5 (-110)
Browns vs. Lions Prop
Flacco remains the starter for the Browns until further notice. For a 40-year-old quarterback, Flacco’s numbers are quite respectable: 631 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.
Flacco exploded for 290 passing yards in Week 1 against a weak Bengals defense. Since then, Flacco has not crossed 200 yards passing.
The Lions’ defense does not have to worry about Flacco scrambling like they did with Jackson. Therefore, they can apply pressure at will without having a spy.
Detroit could jump on Cleveland fast and get out to an early lead. If that happens, I’m banking on the Browns sitting Flacco in the second half in favor of a rookie. With that in mind, I’ll take the under on passing yards
