The Cleveland Browns made the quarterback change to rookie Dillon Gabriel in Week 5. Gabriel had some promising moments, but he also made some mistakes. That’s expected for a rookie quarterback who didn’t start training camp as the first option.
Gabriel finished 19 of 33 for 190 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. The Browns had a late lead until a touchdown pass from Carson Wentz to Jordan Addison put the Vikings in front with under 30 seconds left.
The offense is still a work in progress for Cleveland. On the other hand, the defense, especially the front seven, is playing lights out.
Cleveland is ranked first in pass rush win rate (54%) and run stop win rate (37%). If the Browns can get average quarterback play, they will be in every game because of their elite defensive front.
It feels like the Steelers have not played in weeks. The last time Pittsburgh played, they won a 24-21 game in Ireland on Sept. 28.
The Steelers have won 21 consecutive regular-season games in Pittsburgh dating back to 2003. Baker Mayfield famously led the Browns to a postseason victory over the Steelers during the 2020 season.
This is such a tough spot for Cleveland. The Browns have played three consecutive road games, with one in London.
Mike Tomlin also dominates first-year quarterbacks at home — 16-1 SU. Cleveland’s defense should keep this close, but Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers’ offense make the plays down the stretch to cover.
Pick: Steelers -5.5 (-120)
Browns vs. Steelers Prop
I can’t stress this enough. The Browns’ defensive line is the best front four in the NFL.
Cleveland ranks first in stopping the run (75.6 yards per game) and has only surrendered three rushing touchdowns in five games.
Jaylen Warren missed the Vikings game with a knee injury. However, Warren is practicing this week and should return against the Browns.
Warren’s rushing high this year is 48 yards. The Browns’ defense should contain Warren in Week 6.
Pick: Jaylen Warren Under 50.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
