Chicago Bulls star guard Josh Giddey will miss at least a few weeks because of a strained left hamstring, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday.
Josh Giddey Suffered Injury Against Wolves
Giddey walked off the court after he sustained the injury early in the second half during Monday night’s 136-101 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Chicago.
Through 30 games (all starts) this season, Giddey is averaging career highs of 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 32.8 minutes per contest while shooting 46.6% from the field and a career-best 38.6% from deep.
Giddey, who was selected sixth overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021 draft, currently ranks 13th in total rebounds (268), sixth in defensive boards (233), and third in assists (270) this campaign.
In Chicago’s 135-125 home win over the New York Knicks on Oct. 31, he recorded a career-high 32 points on 12-for-21 (57.1%) shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 (50%) from 3-point territory.
The Bulls acquired Giddey in the 2024 trade deal that sent Alex Caruso to Oklahoma City.
Giddey has averaged 16 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 31 minutes per outing in 100 regular-season games (99 starts) with Chicago.
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Giddey posted seven triple-doubles in 2024-25, the second most in a season in Bulls franchise history, trailing Michael Jordan in 1988-89 (15).
Bulls, Giddey Resolved Contract Standoff
The Bulls and Giddey finally resolved their contract stalemate ahead of the NBA season in September, when the five-year veteran agreed to a four-year, $100 million deal.
“The fact it’s done now, I can move forward; the next four years, I’m locked in with the Bulls,” Giddey told ESPN’s Olgun Uluc during an Oct. 2 interview.
“Super excited, love the city, they embraced me quickly, my teammates are awesome, the building, front office, coaches, everyone’s been awesome. Very, very happy in Chicago, and excited to be there another four years. That was the team I wanted to be at.”
His previous deal was a four-year, $27.21 million rookie-scale contract.
“I’m looking to hit the ground running. You don’t ever want it to be a two-month, three-month hot stretch,” Giddey said. “You want it to be a regular occurrence. I’ve had a great offseason, so [I’m] excited to get back there and get into it.”
The Bulls will also be without leading scorer Coby White for Wednesday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans. White was downgraded to out after suffering a right calf strain Monday night.
