Cam Ward Heavily Favored To Be 1st Overall Pick In 2025 NFL Draft

The discussion about which prospect would be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft has mostly centered around a two-man race. But one of the two candidates is pulling away as a heavy favorite, according to the sportsbook’s oddsmakers.
Who Will Be Picked First In 2025 NFL Draft?
Abdul Carter is one of the players being considered. The defensive end from Penn State was a unanimous All-American in 2024, and won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by racking up 12 sacks and a combined 68 tackles. He is widely considered to be the best defensive prospect in this year’s draft class, and he has a chance to be the first pick, depending on which team owns the top slot.
But based on the ever-changing odds board, Carter is becoming more of a long shot by the week. As of March 23rd, his designation is coming in at +450.

Conversely, Cam Ward is pulling away. After having the best season of any quarterback in the history of the University of Miami, Ward was named the winner of both the Davey O’Brien and Manning Awards as the nation’s top signal caller, and has a handful of NFL teams at the top of the draft interested in his services. He is pulling away as the favorite to be the no. 1 overall pick, pegged with a line of -800, which gives implied odds of better than 88%.
No other player on the board is remotely close to those odds. After Carter, Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter is the next prospect listed, and he is all the way back at +2200. Quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders (+3300) and Jaxon Dart (+8000) round out the top five.
Exactly which team makes the top pick is still up in the air. The Tennessee Titans were awarded the no.1 selection by way of being the worst team in the NFL last season, but are reportedly listening to trade offers for their asset. As of last week, the Titans were -250 favorites to be the ones to make the pick. But the New York Giants, who are quarterback hungry as well, aren’t far behind at +150. The Jets are next on the board, but are further back at +1600.
