NFL Draft: The Jets Should Target A WR With 7th Overall Pick

The New York Jets have their quarterback in place after signing Justin Fields during free agency, but are still in need of an upgrade at the wide receiver position. All signs point to them addressing the need via the upcoming NFL Draft, and they are in good position to make a decision while holding the 7th overall pick.
Jets Should Target A WR With 7th Pick In 2025 NFL Draft
Garrett Wilson is of course the top player on the Jets roster at the position. He will be the team’s no.1 option for the 2025 season (and probably beyond), but there is a serious drop-off in talent on the depth chart after the 24-year-old. Allen Lazard being on the roster is something of a surprise at this point, given that he was brought in mostly to appease Aaron Rodgers, but he is currently the second-best option at the position for New York.
The rest of the selection includes names like Xavier Gipson, Malachi Corley, and Tyler Johnson. No one outside of Wilson and Lazard racked up more than 39 yards in the entire 2024 NFL season for the Jets.

They’ve passed on some of the bigger names on the free agent market, though it looks like they have youth on the mind. They let Davante Adams go, and were never an option for bringing in Cooper Kupp. Guys like Stefon Diggs, Keenan Allen, and Amari Cooper are still available, but there haven’t been any reports about New York showing any interest.
What do all of those players have in common? They’re all over the age of 30.
So if the Jets are looking to get younger at the wide receiver position, they should be looking to the 2025 NFL Draft class for help. And given that they’ll be picking 7th in late April, they might have a shot at bringing in one of the elite pass catching talents available this year.
Which Players Will Be Available In The Top-10?
There are still massive question marks surrounding how the top-5 will shake out. Cam Ward will almost certainly be the top selection, and Abdul Carter is considered a can’t-miss defensive prospect. Travis Hunter should be off the board rather quickly, as well. That would leave wide receiver prospects like Tetairoa McMillan and Matthew Golden to be available when the Jets make their selection, which would give them a player that they could both plug in immediately as well as count on for future NFL development.
Even if they opt to go in a different direction with that top-10 selection, the Jets will still be one of the teams to watch as far as picking a wide receiver in the later rounds. New York owns their own pick in each of the first five rounds, and have an extra 5th rounder via the LA Rams.
