Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward shared his brutally honest response when asked about the offense.
Cam Ward Critiques Titans Offense
The No. 1 pick in April’s draft holds himself and his teammates to a high standard. After two padded practices, Ward is unhappy with how the Titans’ offense has looked.
Ward spoke to the media on Wednesday about the offense’s performance to this point. Ward didn’t hold back in his critiques.
“I just think we’re very mid right now,” Ward said via Titans.com. “From my position to up front to the receiver’s position. But at the end of the day, it all starts with me. I just don’t we’re at where we need to be. But we have a little bit of time, so every day we get better as a whole. We’re a young team, and that is no excuse. At the end of the day we have to come with the right mindset every day and come to work.”
Ward has been spending extra time with his receivers after practice, as they work on their timing. The 23-year-old knows he must be a lot better at the position if he wants to succeed.
“It’s not really about bouncing back, it’s about getter better every day,” Ward added. “I think we just have to get better at the little things, especially myself. We all have a lot of stuff to continue to get better at, and I’m excited for it.”
Ward completed 11 of 23 passes today between 7-on-7s and team periods.
Ward mentioned how it’s his job to watch more film and get in sync with his teammates. Titans head coach Brian Callahan has loved Ward’s work ethic throughout training camp.
“It’s just sort of how he’s wired,” Callahan said of Ward. “Everything about his mental makeup and how he operates when he makes mistakes is everything you’d want to see from a coaching perspective, and so I feel really good about how he’ll respond to any negativity in general.”
Cam Ward Will Start In Week 1
Titans QB Will Levis will be undergoing season-ending surgery on the right shoulder injury he sustained early last year before further aggravating it later in the season. Levis has been unable to shake the discomfort and his shoulder still is bothering him.

Ward might have been drafted first overall, but that does not guarantee him the starting position. Callahan has been hesitant to name a starter, though Ward is more than likely going to be under center for the Titans in Week 1.
Last week, the Titans announced that quarterback Will Levis would be undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. At this point, Ward will be the starter barring an injury.
Ward will try to improve the Titans’ offense, which ranked 27th in points per game (18.3) and 26th in yards per game (304.2) last season.
