Opening Sunday’s double overtime restart in 10th place, NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott rallied over the final two laps and took advantage of Denny Hamlin taking out race leader Bubba Wallace to advance to the Round of 8.  

“Everything worked out perfect for me,” Elliott told NBC Sports. “Had a great push through (Turns) 1 and 2. That kind of all started with (Brad Keselowski). Big run off of 2. Seas kind of parted and just was able to keep my momentum up. That was really it. 

Well, there was a bit more to the finish. The reverberations could linger for the remainder of the 2025 postseason. 

Wallace led under white-flag conditions, but tangled with his boss, Hamlin, who drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, but also serves as co-owner of 23XI Racing. After striking the wall, Wallace faded to P5. He remains 26 points below the cutoff line. 

Elliott, who qualified fourth and led twice for 24 laps, snapped a 12-race winless skid and clinched Chevrolet’s first postseason victory. 

“What a crazy finish,” said Elliott, the circuit’s most popular pilot. “Hope you all enjoyed that. I certainly did. Really proud of our team.”
