Chiefs, Eagles Super Bowl 2025 Uniforms: Why Philly Won’t Wear Kelly Green In New Orleans

The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles have unveiled their uniforms for Super Bowl 2025.

As the home team, Philadelphia opted to select its home green uniforms for Super Bowl 2025, which gave the Chiefs the opportunity to wear their white jerseys in New Orleans.

Though history has favored teams wearing white, both teams have had previous success wearing these colors.

Kansas City beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII while wearing white jerseys in 2023. Meanwhile, Philadelphia won its only Super Bowl in franchise history dawning green uniforms in its 2018 Super Bowl win versus Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

Teams wearing white jerseys have won 64% of the time in the Super Bowl, including 16 of the last 20 overall. They’ve also covered the spread 14 times during that span.

How Is The Home Team Selected In The Super Bowl?

Instead, the NFL alternates the “home” and “away” teams in the Super Bowl between each conference. The home team

Based on this format, NFC teams are recognized as the home team in even-numbered years, while the AFC is recognized as the home team in odd-numbered seasons.

In Super Bowl 2025, the NFC will be the home team. This allowed the Eagles to select their jersey color first. As the away team, the Chiefs will get to call the coin toss before kickoff.

Why Can’t The Eagles Wear Kelly Green Uniforms In The Super Bowl?

Many Philadelphia fans were disappointed to see that the Eagles didn’t choose their famous Kelly Green uniforms for Super Bowl 2025. However, there is a valid reason for choosing their standard green jerseys.

The NFL prohibits teams from wearing alternate uniforms during the postseason. Instead, teams must wear their primary jersey colors during the NFL Playoffs and the Super Bowl.

According to the NFL rulebook, “Optional uniforms (e.g., Alternate, Classic, Color Rush) may not be worn in the postseason. This is inclusive of optional helmets and pants paired with primary jerseys. Postseason uniform designation must include Primary Jersey color (team color or white) and Primary Pant color choices.”
