Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Sept. 30.
Judge Sue L. Robinson will serve as the disciplinary officer at Rice’s hearing. Robinson previously presided over Deshaun Watson’s disciplinary hearing in 2022.
The league and the NFL Players Association could not agree on the length of Rice’s suspension.
Last month, Rice, 25, was sentenced to 30 days in jail following his role in a Dallas car wreck from March 2024.
Per the Dallas County District Attorney’s office release, Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges, including Collision Involving Serious Bodily Injury and Racing on a Highway Causing Bodily Injury.
While driving 119 miles per hour, Rice executed “aggressive maneuvers” and struck another vehicle, which caused a multicar accident.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rice has been sentenced to 30 days of jail time for his role in a Dallas car crash last year. Rice also received five years’ probation.
In addition to jail time, Rice will be on probation for five years. Plus, he must pay restitution to the victims for their out-of-pocket medical expenses — $115,481.91 — before the plea.
Rice can serve the 30-day jail sentence at any point during the probationary period.
What Does This Mean For Rashee Rice And The Kansas City Chiefs?
Sue L. Robinson, the former U.S. district judge who serves as the NFL and NFLPA’s jointly-appointed disciplinary officer, is scheduled to hear Rashee Rice’s Sept. 30 disciplinary case in New York. Rice is not in the clear. A suspension is looming from the NFL. The rumored punishment ranges from a four- to eight-game suspension.
The peculiar part of this issue is the Sept. 30 date of the disciplinary hearing. Many believed that the hearing would happen before the season began, meaning Rice would miss the opening of the 2025 season.
With the hearing scheduled for the end of September, Rice will likely play in the Chiefs’ first four games.
Chiefs’ Opening Schedule
- Week 1: at Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil
- Week 2: vs. Philadelphia Eagles
- Week 3: at New York Giants
- Week 4: vs. Baltimore Ravens
Rice’s suspension would then start in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. From weeks 5-9, the Chiefs play the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, and Buffalo Bills.
With Rice out, quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have to rely on Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy to catch the bulk of his passes.
Mahomes’ other targets include Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and rookie Jalen Royals.
