The college basketball coaching carousel continued on Monday with Mike Bibby heading to Sacramento State and Niko Medved going to Minnesota.

Sacramento State Hires Mike Bibby

Sacramento State is enlisting the services of a former NBA point guard to be their next head coach.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sacramento State will hire Bibby as their next head coach.

Bibby replaces interim head coach Michael Czepil, who took over for David Patrick following the 2023-2024 season.

The Hornets finished the 2024-2025 season with a 7-25 record.

Bibby, who has never been a coach in college, spent six years at the helm of Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Bibby won five state championships in six years, from 2013 to 2019.

Bibby played in the NBA for 14 seasons, most notably for the Sacramento Kings from 2001 to 2008. He finished his career averaging 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists.

Niko Medved Heads To Minnesota

One day after Colorado State’s last-second loss to Maryland, Rams head coach Niko Medved has agreed to a six-year contract to become the next head coach of the Minnesota men’s basketball team.

It’s a homecoming for Medved, who graduated from Minnesota in 1997. Medved served as an assistant coach for the Gophers in 2006-2007.

“I loved my time at Colorado State, and I worked with tremendous people who made a lasting impact on my life. Those are memories that I will cherish forever,” Medved said in a statement. “This job was too special to pass up, and when the opportunity presented itself, I had to take it. I grew up a Gopher about 15 minutes away from The Barn. I went to school here, was a student manager here, and coached here. This is a special place, it’s home, and I cannot wait to get started.”

Medved heads to Minnesota after spending the last seven seasons with Colorado State. Medved owned a 143-85 at Colorado State, with three NCAA Tournament appearances the last four seasons.

Medved and the Rams won their opening-round game against Memphis before losing on a buzzer-beater to Maryland.

Medved also served as a head coach with Drake (2017-2018) and Furman (2013-2017).

Medved replaces Ben Johnson, who was fired earlier this month.
