The UConn Huskies were looking for their third-straight National Championship during March Madness 2025, but they had the cards stacked against them. And according to their head coach Dan Hurley, the referees didn’t do anything to help their cause during their second round loss to Florida on Sunday.

Dan Hurley Has Choice Words About Referees After UConn Eliminated

After a lackluster regular season by their own standards, UConn entered the 2025 NCAA Tournament as an 8 seed. After defeating Oklahoma in Round 1, they were matched up against the 1-seeded Florida Gators, and entered the game as big 9.5-point underdogs. They held their own for the first 32 minutes of action, leading for most of the game until Florida took the reins with less than 8 minutes in the game.

The Huskies fought down the stretch, but faced a 7-point deficit with less than 30 seconds remaining. They attempted a late comeback, but were only able to cut the final score to a two-point deficit by way of a last-second three-pointer that finalized the score at 77-75 in favor of the Gators.

Apparently, Hurley wasn’t pleased with how the game was officiated in the final minutes. As UConn was headed back to their locker room after the defeat, they walked past the Baylor Bears team in the tunnel, who were headed onto the court to take on Duke in the second game of Sunday’s action in Raleigh. In a statement directed towards Baylor, Hurley had the following to say as he walked by:

“I hope they don’t f**k you like they f**ked us. I hope they don’t do that to you guys.”

The clip of the incident went viral immediately, and drew some ire from social media. Hurley, known to be demonstrative and vocal, was criticized, being called a “sore loser” for his antics. Many believe that his job calls for him to be more classy, especially in the face of defeat after winning the title in each of the past two seasons.

UConn finished the 2024-25 regular season with a record of 22-9, with a conference mark of 14-6. It was good enough for a 3rd place finish in the Big East. They were looking to become the first back-to-back-to-back National Champions since the tournament field expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
