The Chicago Bears beat the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 at Lumen Field on Monday, Nov. 2, in Week 8 of the NFL regular season. D’Andre Swift scored three rushing touchdowns, and Chicago went 4-for-4 in the red zone while holding the ball for 35:03.
Santos field goals and a missed PAT
Chicago struck first. Caleb Williams found Luther Burden III for a 1-yard touchdown with 5:25 left in the first quarter, and Cairo Santos converted for a 7-0 lead.
Jason Myers got Seattle on the board with a 27-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Santos then answered twice, from 44 and 38 yards, to make it 13-3 with 1:08 left in the half.
Sam Darnold cut into that lead 38 seconds later with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Myers missed the extra point, so Seattle went into halftime trailing 13-9.
Swift’s 1-yard and 5-yard runs
Swift opened the third quarter scoring with a 1-yard run at 5:38 to push the margin to 20-9. Seattle responded early in the fourth. Darnold hit Cooper Kupp for a 7-yard touchdown at 11:46, then threw to Tory Horton for a two-point conversion that made it 20-17.
That was as close as the Seahawks got. Swift scored from 5 yards at 8:28 and again from 5 yards at 4:41, and Chicago closed with 14 straight points.
The Bears outgained Seattle 363 yards to 252 and ran 35 times for 126 yards. The Seahawks managed 81 rushing yards on 19 carries. Chicago completed 24 of 34 passes for 237 yards; Seattle went 17 of 34 for 171.
Third down told a similar story. Chicago converted 7 of 15, Seattle just 1 of 11. The Seahawks also reached the red zone four times and scored a touchdown only once. Darnold was sacked three times for 17 yards, while Williams went down once.
Chicago did not play a clean game. The Bears were flagged 10 times for 85 yards, against five for 43 for Seattle, and each team lost one turnover. Rome Odunze led Chicago in receiving and Devin Bush led its defense. For Seattle, Jadarian Price led the ground game and Ernest Jones led the defense.
Bears’ third straight win, Arizona next for Seattle
Chicago entered the night at 5-2, third in the NFC North. The result is the Bears’ third straight win after victories at Atlanta (31-23) and at home against New England (30-24).
Seattle came in at 4-3 and second in the NFC West, off a 20-3 home win over Kansas City. That run stopped at one game.
The Seahawks stay home to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Nov. 8. Chicago hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, Nov. 9.
