After concerns that she might be quietly retiring, American Danielle Collins opted out of the Australian swing of the WTA tennis season. Citing the recovery from a back injury and fertility treatments, Collins has decided to take her flair and tennis acumen to the broadcast chair at Tennis Channel.
As a disclaimer, I think Collins may be a better broadcaster and media person than player. She has a pleasant demeanor and articulates the nuances of the game well.
However, she did let a little bit of bias creep in while making an Australian Open prediction. Everybody knows that Collins does not like Iga Swiatek. Their matches have been riddled with conflict and controversy.
That’s why with a bit of a smile, Collins predicted that Swiatek will have a swift exit in Melbourne citing “trouble in paradise” for Iga’s camp. The logic is not wrong; Iga suffered back-to-back losses at the United Cup to Belinda Bencic and Coco Gauff.
Danielle Collins picks Iga Swiatek as a player who could lose in the 1st 2 rounds of the Australian Open:
"It's probably no surprise to people that follow tennis. I was a little concerned with her performance at United Cup. 2 back to back losses”

It was the delivery that gave away the fact that Collins has no intention of letting her beef with Iga go even from the supposedly unbiased media perch she is currently sitting on at Tennis Channel.
Swiatek is a competitor. Though she may not have seen this, her team has. Iga needs no extra motivation to get better. She admitted that her singles results were disappointing at the United Cup. Iga is on a quest for the career Grand Slam at the Australian Open.
Let’s see if Collins’s prediction comes true or if it fuels Iga’s fire even more.
