American tennis player Danielle Collins is not retiring.
I was among those concerned that a silent retirement was in the works because Collins was not on the entry list for any of the Australian early season tournaments including the Australian Open.
Collins took to social media to explain what has been happening in her life.

She explained that the late season back injury was part of the reason she has not been training.

The other reason is that she is undergoing fertility treatments, specifically freezing her eggs, a procedure that the WTA actively supports and allows players to use a protective ranking (as they would do with a long-term injury) to undergo treatment, recover, and return to the WTA Tour.

Collins will not be far from the courts in January. She will be working for the Tennis Channel.
She says that she will not be competing during the “first part of the year.”

Danielle Collins tested the waters of announcing that she would retire before the 2025 season but changed her mind.
She seemed uncomfortable with the celebrations and extra attention WTA tournaments wanted to give her in 2024.
That’s part of the reason I thought she may opt for a quiet retirement this time around.

What Will Tennis Channel Australian Open Coverage Look Like?
She is good friends with Coco Vandeweghe who is also a Tennis Channel contributor. Both may be working from TC headquarters in Los Angeles.
It is not clear who, if any, will be sent from TC for the Australian Open.
ESPN is the broadcast partner, but it would be shocking if Prakash Armitraj would not be onsite to interview players at a Melbourne TC desk.
