Girona v FC Barcelona - La Liga Santander

Frenkie de Jong, with an ankle injury, and Pedri, with a hamstring injury, will be out for several weeks for FC Barcelona. Both midfielders are expected to miss the second leg of the last-16 tie against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.
The concern surrounding Barcelona’s two midfielders was confirmed by the Catalan club on Monday. Frenkie de Jong is suffering from a sprained external ligament in his right ankle. Pedri, meanwhile, has relapsed with a third hamstring injury in his right thigh this season. Both came off injured in Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Bilbao.

The length of time the two players will be unavailable has not been specified by FC Barcelona. However, according to the Spanish press, they are likely to be sidelined for over a month, and will therefore miss the return leg against Napoli in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, March 12.

Injuries Pile Up In Midfield

The young Spanish international is not expected to recover for the friendlies with his national team. La Roja are due to face Colombia in London on March 22, before welcoming Brazil to the brand-new Santiago-Bernabeu stadium.

Barcelona coach Xavi laments the “loss” of these two players. “They are two very influential players in our game, two very important players”. De Jong and Pedri join Gavi and Balde in the infirmary, two other Barça players unavailable until the end of the season.
