The defense for the Baltimore Ravens allowed 38 points to the Detroit Lions on Monday night, the second time in three games that they’ve given up at least that amount. Through the early part of the schedule, no team in the NFL has given up more points, but are they the worst unit in the league?
No NFL Team Has Allowed More Points Than The Baltimore Ravens
By essentially all statistical measurements, the Ravens do have the worst defense thus far. The 97 points that they’ve allowed thus far is more than every other team except the reeling Miami Dolphins, who have also given up 97.
Baltimore’s 1,245 allowed yards are the most in the league thus far, just ahead of the New York Giants, and they’ve given up the second-most first downs (70). Their pass defense ranks 31st in yards allowed, and they’re the third-worst when it comes to stopping the run. No team has allowed more rushing scores (7).

Of course, the level of opponents may have something to do with it. The Ravens opened the 2025 NFL season by playing a classic game against the Buffalo Bills, who scored 41 during Kickoff Weekend. In Week 2, the Cleveland Browns had their highest output of the young season when they scored 17 points against Baltimore’s defense, which was followed by Monday night’s 38 by Detroit.
Conversely, their offense has been the top producer in the NFL. Through the first three games, the Ravens have scored 111 points, 8 more than any other team in the league. It is the highest total through three weeks for a team with a losing record in league history.
They’d better find a way to balance things out soon. Next week, in what would typically be a marquee matchup, the Ravens will take on the Kansas City Chiefs, and the loser will fall to a surprising 1-3 record. They’ll then take on the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams before their Week 7 bye.
