The Eagles might have been the most disappointing undefeated team heading into Week 5. Credit to the players for finding ways to win. However, Philadelphia is nowhere near close to playing at a Super Bowl-winning level.
In Week 5, the Eagles’ luck ran out. Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos came into Philadelphia and upset the Eagles 21-17. The Broncos entered the fourth quarter down 17-3. Denver went on to outscore Philadelphia 18-0, with three scoring drives on three possessions.
Last season, the Eagles’ bread and butter was their running game. Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 2,000 yards a season ago, had six carries in Sunday’s loss. That’s unacceptable for a team that averaged 179.3 rushing yards per game in 2024.
Injuries to the offensive line have hindered the offense. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was sacked six times by the Broncos.
DeVonta Smith finally had his best game of the season — eight receptions for 114 yards. A.J. Brown only recorded five catches for 43 yards.
The Eagles are still an excellent team and could very well make their third Super Bowl appearance in four seasons. However, this team needs a confidence boost, especially on offense.
The New York Giants are an ideal team for the Eagles to play to snap out of their funk. The Giants committed five turnovers in the team’s 26-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
New York is first in total flags (56), a category that teams do not want to headline.
Jaxson Dart struggled in his second career start, throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble. Dart has clearly provided a spark to a struggling Giants’ offense. However, New York lacks an explosive weapon without Malik Nabers.
The Giants can keep this close for most of the game. The defense has played much better at home than on the road. The Giants have allowed an average of 21.5 points at home as opposed to 29 points on the road.
The Giants have beaten the Eagles once since the 2021 season. The Eagles should take care of business on the road.
