Efforts are being made to promote responsible gaming and financial literacy to the college demographic
In the United States, the Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) is taking a major step toward promoting responsible gaming. Their newest initiative is aimed at the college demographic. ROGA plans to launch the National College Education Campaign by early 2025. The main objective of this program will be to provide essential information about responsible gaming and financial literacy. It’s necessary because this generation is heavily involved with online gambling.
Dr. Jenifer Shatley, the executive director of ROGA, explained why targeting this demographic is important. Education and awareness are two of ROGA’s main pillars. Shatley detailed how there are little to no resources for this age group. The development of this campaign is being supported by partnerships with Epic Global Solutions, Kindbridge Behavioral Health, and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC).
Dr. Jenifer Shatley explained in detail why these actions are necessary
While ROGA is working with the Responsible Gaming Council (RGC), its mission is not solely focused on gaming. Dr. Jenifer Shatley derailed how their program wants to teach life skills. These include valuable insights into budgeting, saving, and understanding the risk associated with debt. This is information the students can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Another main focus for ROGA is that this generation is always on a device of some kind. That is why they plan to deliver resources through platforms being frequently used. Finally, ROGA wants to correctly identify and define problem gambling. Their program encourages students to seek help if they find themselves in a problem gambling-related incident.
All college students are being targeted, not just student-athletes
Teresa Fiore is the VP of Partnerships at EPIC Global Solutions. They are partnered with ROGA to help educate the college demographic about responsible gaming and financial literacy. This campaign seeks to educate all college students, not just the student-athletes. Popular online sports handles like BetMGM have also followed suit by donating to responsible gambling research. EPIC Solutions has educated over 50,000 NCAA students and staff. Their partnership with ROGA will help expand their services.
Financial literacy is another key component of ROGA’s mission to reach the college demographic. Students need the skill to maintain a budget and handle their finances. The new program will help tackle all those issues and more. Additionally, ROGA wants students to set healthy boundaries for gaming activities. Helping college students make informed decisions is a national issue that ROGA will attempt to tackle in 2025.
